Asta la 'Vista', ex OS 'XP'

Microshaft...sorry Micocsoft plan to reveal their latest Windows product in October. |-)

Slated for a January 2010 roll out, its said that the OS will be based on Vista.

All well & good, but I don't have Vista, I'm still a (dinosaur) running XP, & I'm happy with that.

So will a new OS mean yet more useless features, require an investment of $$$, or £££, or EEE  ...old keyboard too, does not have Euro key, as well as the famous 'any' key...[as in press any key to coninue] :tunes:

New OS, new FS  where will it all end.

I don't really have a problem with Vista tbh. Once I'd switched off UAC and stopped most of the pointless services it runs just as good as XP did for me and is far more stable.
The only 64bit problems I've had was a webcam that I got 7 years ago that I couldn't find drivers for :)

No problems with Vista here either. Most of the performance issue in Vista were actually caused my 3rd party software. Rather that use the SDK properly, they would install programs to run as services to get round UAC (Which is actually quite good if the software running on it had been written properly). All these services starting at startup made machines which could run Vista OK, grind to a halt.

Windows 7 will be a bit like what XP was to 2000. I wouldn't hang my hat on a Jan 2010 release, but it is still possible.

User Account Control. That annoying little application that pop's up when you try and run, delete or click on anything.

its to do with MS' recommended way of doing things. As in not using an admin account to do your stuff on a PC but when needed you elevate upto the admin to do what you need to do then reduce back down...

I have to say that now I've got used to it, I actually find Vista to be very good, it runs well and there are some very useful features such as the search box built into the start bar so you can find a program quickly. Personally I have left the User Account Control thing on as though it does get annoying (some programs I have to "allow" everytime!) it stops anything installing itself.
