Skip

I'm running an Intel Duo Core 6600 @ 2.40GHz.

The problem is causing me concern purely because a) the graphics card guarantee is due up in 3 weeks and, b) I have had reasonably good frame rates in FSX until now.
I have just put the full 4GB RAM back into the PC and will do a few test hops in FSX later on, probably morning.

I was aware of the 'funny' where 32 bit only reognises up to 3.5GB of RAM and I would probably upgrade to 64bit when I upgrade my processor later on.

lol very true Dave, but definately in the other instance its the best course of action, and since I rebuilt mine last moth, there is such a difference in performance. That said, Skip is right... FS is very CPU bound. ;-)

RE the Ark... Sometimes its fine, no problem at all, and sometimes it does seem to slow the sim right down.... I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't seem to be the Ark herself, more what seems to happen when she is interactic with certain other scenery... never mind, she is still great!

I'm coming to the conclusion you've been on a course! :lol:

You can go to the doctors these days with a complaint and 9 times out of 10, he'll say it's 'Viral'. I note that of late, you're prescribing rebuilds to cure the pc ill's :lol:

Thanks to everyone for all the advice and suggestions. This is what I have done so far;

Replaced the RAM with the original 4 x 512MB items; this made no change at all to the operation of either FS9 orFSX so I changed back again to the new 4 x 1GB items.

At this stage FSX was getting a bit grouchy, hanging up and going into slide show mode even on fairly sparse scenery so I uninstalled it, did a virus check on the HD and then a full defrag. Reloaded FSX only to have it hang up after loading up My TrafficX with a scenery missing fault. Back to uninstall/defrag/install.

So far - I've only managed .9 hr flying over 4 days - FSX is showing around 18 - 30 fps low and slow over central London and everything appears to be fine. If it all goes t1ts up, you will probably hear the tortured scream wherever you are!

Hi Allan :)

It's not a great deal of fun when things don't work right first time is it. I recently built a system for FSX with WinXPSP3. System defragged after installing FSX then GenXv1 installed and system defragged again. My very first flight from Llanbedr for a whiz round you-know-where stopped shortly after takeoff. I was on the northerly runway so took off, turned sharp left then went outside for a goof. Next thing I know.. a scenery/texture missing error :dunno: :'( :o :roll: :-( :brick: I could see what it was too. The tower had no wall textures :o I then installed the GenXv1 patch for that area and the bricks came back.. phew!

Unfortunately.. I don't use the FS9 install on there as it's proven to be unstable for some ungodly reason. Was so unhappy that I moved back to my old pc where FS9 runs a tad slower (as you'd expect) but is packed with goodies and stable as a stable thing :)
