Landing problem with Herald

Post by steveamsden »

Hi Folks,

Just started flying the Herald - everything is going fine, HOWEVER, when I land the engines both immediately shut down and all warning lights start to flicker. Even Nav. lights flicker. I don't have this problem with any other CBFSVA aircraft. Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve and welcome :)

You've not said which sim you're using the Herald in (ie.. FS9 or FSX) but a known prob with the Herald (not FS related but based on RW info and this is how the model is modelled) is that landing hard can cause the generators to go offline. I've not flown the Herald in FSX so I can't comment but a less than 'there or thereabouts' landing in FS9 will see the generators go. A consequence will be the props go into fine pitch so a TOGA is gonna get you nowhere too ;-)

It that like inertia switches Dave????

That thought occurred to me but I didn't think they were modelled in FS, but perhaps something similar is.

Certainly in RW some sort of cut out would occur :o

Hello Mate :)

I dunno how the heck Fraser modelled it into the panel but... hang on, aircraft check.. darn it, I'm thinking of the 748/780 which does have this device fitted but not the Herald :brick: TBH.. I'm now at a loss as I've never known this happen in the Herald

Hi Guys,

The Herald does have the inertia switch, I PM'd Fraser about it a while back as the same happened to me - I dropped her on the runway a bit too hard. I also had the engines smoking !! Can't remember where the switch is but I'm sure Fraser will pop in to jog my memory. At work at the mo so can't check.

Regards

John

Hi Steve,

There is an inertia switch isolate on the port overhead which you can set to ON to prevent the crash switches operating ;-)

cheers

Well bless my soul.. I never knew that  A new day and something new learned.. can't be bad ;-) All I can say is that in all my landings in the Herald (and I've had a couple of bloomers too!!) I've never hit hard enough to kill it
