DC-3 Accident in Antartica

Post by blanston12 »

A friend of mine sent me these photo's. I am not sure about the details on this except that everyone survived. I did find this report on the accident http://aviation-safety.net/database/rec ... 20071220-1.

And now for the pictures:

See, that's what happens when you put silly engines on a classic airframe

Looks more like a BT-67 than a DC-3 to me. :D

Either way it was evidently repaired. Strong planes, those DC-3s (and BT-67s) are.
Can't be arsed.

It was repaired ?? :o

Looking at the damage in the fifth photo down, and considering its remote location, I would have thought it was a write-off.

I wonder what the rather dodgy looking suspicious red stain is on the ice under the nose.

Hydraulic Fluid. When the gear was torn away, it took the hydraulic lines with it.

The Dc-3 & derivitives use mineral based hydraulic fluid which is red. Skydrol is supposed to be a light purple but its often difficult to make the colour out.
