The time constantly going adrift is an obvious sign the battery is on it's way out but these darned things have a habit of NOT showing an incorrect time but still giving a checksum error. After such a short time.. one would expect it not to be the battery but there are such things as duff batteries. I'd expect 5years or more off a new mobo so 7months is a little dire

I need help in simple laymen terms how to update my Bios.......It says to save Bios onto a Floppy but i don't have one of them...so.....???
I do have EZ Flash.......but i don't find it that EZ....can someone talk me through this process of updating my Bios please..... :prayer:
Please keep it nice and simple for me.....

I'd advise picking up a cheap floppy drive and installing that to flash from, it is rare but on occasion flashing using applications such as EZ flash can completely bugger up your system if there is a problem. This would mean that (unless you fancy doing a hot swap of the BIOS chip, rather finicky and troublesome) you'd have to RMA your motherboard back to the manufacturer or retailer depending on whether it's out of warranty or not.
Edit : Sorry but I've only jumped into this thread rather late. Corrupted BIOS, system that won't keep time, CHECKSUM errors, I've seen this all before and unfortunately the board was kaput and needed to be replaced. It happened on my girlfriends and very occasionally she'd get an error or the time would slip out of sync, and she'd have to boot with BIOS defaults and change it. Then one day the whole thing went completely tits up and the only fix was a replacement.

EZ Flash worked and after 10 re-boots....no problems so far..... :prayer:
Will keep you informed......

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Tony. Incidentally (you probably are already but it bears saying just in case) make sure that you're using a decent surge protector. I've seen countless corrupt BIOS and damaged motherboards caused by power surges (and dips on occasion), they don't even have to be large ones (so much so that you wouldn't really notice them) and obviously the only way to fix this is decent surge protection. If the power isn't particularly "clean" then the motherboard usually takes the brunt of it and will suffer damage before any other component.

Hope we're still talking about the mobo. Just leaving. Wonder if SWMBO has a dodgy battery - been getting ever more erratic these past 26 years. Time, shmime, she's hardly ever on the same planet.
You need to take that one to Escorts and Stewards Allan
...or marriage guidance
Derek ;-)
