Start up error....

Post by Techy111 »

Every now and again on start up i get a bad checksum error and Bios resets.....?

Says date and time not set....i have to set them again...!

Is this a bad battery or is it in need of replacing....or is it something more worrying...?

Hi Tony..

Lee had this problem on a Biostar board for just about the entire life of the mobo. In fact.. the only time it stopped is when he got a new system!!! I think he did eventually change the battery (the mobo wouldn't post by this time) but can't remember if the prob continued

Hi Dave....its an ASUS P5KE WiFi Deluxe board and its only 7 months old...... :dunno:

Bit worried about this and was thinking of just buying a better board.....My 1 Gig 3870 X2 card barely fits on it anyway.....

Anyone else had this...or know of this problem...?

Hi Tony. I usually pop along to the PC Advisor forum helproom if I'm looking for PC help. So I did a search for 'checksum errors' and this first post may well answer your question. If not, there are plenty more posts to choose from!

Hmmm. I read it as being most likely the battery and far less likely to be the other possibilities. Did you try this to check the battery?
PCAdvisor wrote:If you turn off the computer and then pull the power socket from the wall. If the bios says it's gone back to defaults, mainly the clock and date. You need a new battery. If the bios holds the time and date. You don't need a battery.
If you don't like the answer it gives , try another search in the helproom using "checksum error" until you find an answer you like

Keeping my fingers crossed...
