Additional paints and a paintkit have been made available since the Hawk release so other than the 'Paypal' hurdle.. all would seem to be tickerty-bo :)

I really don't know how you would quantify what is and what isn't a payware success. The simple fact that the Sea Vixen was up on the torrents within hours killed it off good and proper so commercially, it was probably not a success. The Hawk has sold in some numbers and although it appeared briefly on a torrent.. I understand those that pulled it got less than they would have liked and this has ensured continued sales which can only be good :) I couldn't tell you how many units have sold and wouldn't publish it here if I did but speaking to Brian a few days after the launch.. the numbers looked good to me.

Ben mentioned the slightly hap-dash site which I agree isn't particularly user friendly but this will evolve and will include (one would hope) Paypal in the fullness of time. :)

Perhaps the Hawk as an aircraft really isn't to everyones liking hence the apparent lack of praise from the plaudits.. I honestly couldn't say as I don't go looking for that sort of thing. There's absolutely no doubting the quality and you know what you're gonna get with Rick's name attached but no matter how good it is.. if you don't like the Hawk, you're not gonna buy it.

I've bought models before on the strength of one or two post release paints.. the last being the Alpha F104. Henry did a really stonking set of paints but I missed the point that they were FSX only so wasted a few quid on the model :brick:

Being one of the few 'true FSX' models of a fast jet (and with Arrows/MOD endorsement) I cannot help but think the big guys (Amazon, PC World and Argos etc.) would be interested in selling the Hawk.

I know profits would be a fraction of what they are selling direct, but remember the old saying about 'stacking them high', 20% of loads is often better than 100% of very few! Just my private thoughts BTW, the website is a bit 'home-made' but it is getting better by the week!

the Hawk has sold double what i was told it would sell in "total sales" in it's first 2 weeks of being available

it has had almost zero advertizing too.

i have had a large number of e mails from people saying it's far better than they expected it to be and that it's very immersive.

the only problems have been it's fiddly to activate if you don't follow exactly what it tells yo to do.
sometimes it takes too long to get and activation e mail (but it clearly says on the purchase page that it can take upto 24 hours for the activation mail!)

apart from a couple of people almost everyone says they are very happy with their purchase.

hopefully it will get a Review soon.

no idea why nobody is painting the Hawk but i guess once it gets a few reviews and the "Assumed negativity" goes away it will get painted a lot more.

Apologies to UKMIL for not reading his question thoroughly on first attempt. :$ (i saw the paypal bit and went blind to the rest) :-#

If there was a version for Fs9 then id paint it no worries as the Hawk is my kind of aircraft, but as i dont like FSX i wouldnt buy this Hawk im affraid, and as there isnt going to be a Fs9 version as we all know then i have no need to paint any FSX versions.

I can not help but think recently that the sheer amount of work required to develop a true FSX native model that maximises all the bells and whistles that Sim offers is the factor here. Obviously you do not wish to do something for nothing so that hard labour is reflected in the pricing, and that is where I think the problem is, for some the costs are too high and perhaps this is the reason for lower sales and lack of quality repaints. (I think the Paypal issue is irrelevant you will find a way....)

I am not here now to say what is worth the money or not, but I am not too sure for example quite how long the Alpha C-17 is going to take to finalise, but I would imagine it would not be cheap, and in all honesty there the repaints of that particular aircraft are hardly flamboyant to say the least!

Even from a freeware point of view the bar has been raised so high I dare not release anything for fear of being referred to an early 2002 model!

On the popcorn issue, I know its a kind of sell out, but I am more partial to that toffee coated stuff you buy in bags......I'll get my coat!

The Alphasim C-17 was virtually ready a while ago but has suffered a set back, the extra time taken now should not be reflected in increased price as the work being done is to overcome shortfalls from the set back.

Pricing will always be set at what developers think the market can sustain, recently some seem to have over reached that point and they will have to reign it back or loose customers.

Regarding releasing stuff, you release what ever you want and to what ever level you are happy with, the minute you start to release stuff to what you think others want then your done, I can say with almost certainty that those whos criticise others work cant even join two polys together, therefore there critcism is void IMHO.

Best

Michael
