Ah.. that would explain it then.. the Alan Mann JetRanger doesn't have one

BTW.. I urge a vote to make FSX the best ship sim ever. A few buses and trains and it'd finally be all things to all men

 Indeed ship mate. All we need is for all of the AI ships to be hardened (i.e. Landable) Just think of the fun you could have with air/sea rescues, and landing Harriers (if there was an FSX one) Atlantic Conveyor style. Are you getting any pitch when you onboard? Now if we could only simulate a bit of swell, it would make things all that more interesting. I was looking for my Alpha lynx which Mr.P has ported over without problems, but alas, even though i have my download code for the pack, i can't see any way to download it from the "New look" alpha site The Merlin is good fun to get on deck, but alas the wrong version. Still.... it could go down a s a joint forces op.

So to summerise, we need.....

Bulwark, Eagle, A fleet of Counties (both batches) FSX Lynx / Wessex / Seaking, Phantom, Buc, Sea Harrier, (I'm sure I've missed something) oh yes, wouldn't it be good if we could FSXize Steve's Sea Hawk  :RN: :RN:

Nearly there then

I pulled the Alpha Lynx over last night and it doesn't fly too bad at all.. likewise the Seaking. The Alpha Merlin still feels quite sporty (as does the Acceleration version truth to tell) but reacts well to small, precise inputs.. something I'm not particularly deft at but it can be achieved with patience :)

The Merlin is a fast and agile helo despite its size, much like the MH and CH-53s are, there was a new Merlin FDE but dont know if it got uploaded anywhere, I can ammend yours to suit your preferences if you wish ?. V1.9 should be the latest FDE for FSx and FS9.

Ben there is a RN Merlin as well from AS, though they charge extra as its a different pack. Also a PM to you showing something that might interest you :).

Hiya Michael :)

I've just had a look at the cfg and air files for the RN Merlin and the cfg is listed as v1.9 and the airfile is dated 14.3.07. I don't have aired on this pc so can't check any internal numbering I'm afraid  If that's the latest version.. no problemo mate. It's different enough to warrant staying as-is. Nice as the default JetRanger is.. it'd be a bit boring if every helo flew the same ;-)

Dave, ok looks like you have the latest, if you want to tone it down a little then open the cfg file and look for the low realism stability scale line, this effects the helicopters feel, the lower the number the more sprightly and sporty it feels, currently its 0.4, 0.3, 0.8, I'd suggest 0.7, 0.6, 1.1 and see how that feels, this is a good way to tune a helo without altering your sim settings from hard to medium or anything, thus you can tune each model individually to suit your taste. It doesnt alter the speed or lift, just the response from the joystick, there are other ways to tone them down but this is the easiest to try and have fun with.

Err which one would that be Image I have three LOL, one to tie in with Ricks County class, one to tie into the Leander and a new one started when a kind gent sent over a whole fist full of cockpit shots at the weekend for a project that has been stalled for years. That makes four ship/aircraft packages on the go and thats about all I can handle right now and being realistic should be all I should contemplate until some of them are finished. The lack of Wasp at Duxford last week kinda threw a wet squid on that for the moment, but no matter I have a couple of trips planned later in the year to Yeovilton and again to Duxford or anywhere else where my subject matter may reside :).

Enjoy your cfg editing, you should see some nice benefits and when you get more adept you can dial the numbers back to keep you on the ball and retain that freshness learning drive we all need from time to time.

Hi Michael :)

I can only remember one thing at a time so I'm still on the Leander

I've dialled those settings into the RN Merlin and love it to bits :welldone: Slightly less twitchy but still with plenty of poke to get you out of trouble. Don't have time to chase the Ark down to Devonport now (an FSX Shack with working surface radar would come in handy.. even though the Merlin is probably faster) Great stuff mate and thanks a zillion.
When I put Acceleration on this morning.. I let it remap the keyboard (to take advantage of all the new things I know nothing of) and as such.. can't get the sonar to dip (or do anything for that matter). I know it worked in FS9 but have only just started playing in FSX (thanks to Ben and his AI Ships!!!) and can't remember if it ever worked in FSX :$

BTW Michael.. I have some shots (a few) I took of the Yeovilton Wasp if they'd be any good to you ;-)
