As an aside, what sort of NAVAids, do Carriers or destroyers / frigates have?
As far a the RN, the CVS have recently had TACAN fitted (actually not 100% sure if this has happened to both yet) but before that nothing! They also had Microwave Aircraft Guidance Equipment (MADGE) to guide the F/A2 on, some sort of ILS that I think worked through the radar in the jet. Now they have a Precision Approach Radar (PAR) fitted to provide a talk down to the GR9.
Currently the FF/DD don't have any Navaids fitted, although I'm fairly sure other Navies do i.e. I'm sure the USN have TACANS on pretty much all their ships.

Cheers for that Skippy, so from an RN perspective, the lack of AFCAD in the sim is spot on... especially for the period I'm flying (60's 70's 80's) :welldone:

A bit disappointed with what I've seen so far of the much heralded Acceleration Pack :-( I see Ark Royal now which is good but the install has effed around with things. FSX doesn't run as sweetly as it did.. my textures aren't so stable.. the lovely Rick Piper Allan Mann and BEA paints for the JetRanger no longer show.. all in all not as good as it was with SP2 alone  I'll leave it a day or so to settle down and hope that it either improves or I get used to it!!

Might be worth speaking to Rick mate, as he'll know whats best. If you have some things you'd like me to try, i'll verify that I'm getting the same on my system. Have you tried deck landing the Sea Vixen on Ark with the hook down?

Hiya Ben :)

No.. not yet mate. TBH.. my Sea Vixen for FSX is the beta version and it's rather heavy on frames... not a patch on the full FS9 version  I'll be having a look in a few mins though ;-) Watching what Acceleration does as it's installing.. I wouldn't be surprised if it completely rewrites many if not all of the default aircraft and this would explain why Alan Mann and BEA FJ have disappeared.

There's something odd about the Simshed Wessex. I often find that by selecting this.. my landable flat tops become suddenly unlandable :o How odd! :dunno: Anyway.. that's the least of my problems as it also hits my frame rates in a big way :'(

Right.. off to sea again

Hi DB

I think SP2 updates some errors in the aircraft.cfg of the Jetranger so you possibly no longer have the livery entries there.

I have the repaints in SP2 and they are fine here.

Hello Mate..

As suspected watching Acceleration install.. it had indeed rewritten the Jetrangers cfg file which is why Alan Mann, BEA and Bristows were not showing. That's now sorted ;-) However.. on loading the Sea Vixen.. I got the 'unknown gauge' prompt which I accepted.. headed for Ark Royal and before I'd got more than a hundred or so feet into the air.. FSX froze and gave me a util.dll error

I love it when this sort of sh1te happens!! :@

Hi Matey

I can't help with that one but i would install the seaVixen again after the sp2 install as SP2 also purges the gauges folder of some files.

your not alone matey.

Rick

SP2 and Accell also hit port overs quite badly too, theres even less backward compatibility, if you have a lot of port overs then it may be best to stick with SP1, if your all clean and FSx only then SP2 and Accell show good benifits. your problem with the Sea Vixen may be down to SP2 and Accell not like a port over very much rather than the Sea Vixen being at fault and would explain why its now less user friendly that it was in SP1.

Best

Hi there shipmates :)

Well.. I've not lost the touch. Loaded up an hour or so after Ark had sailed and found her off Anglesey :dancer: Not everything is going to plan though. I'm never sure now who's in charge.. FSX or me as each time I load, the sim seems different :o :dunno: The problem at Liverpool wasn't Ark Royal Ben. If the sim loads up with the aircraft pointing toward Manchester.. I get that util.dll error (Ark Royal is some way away in the opposite direction). Dunno what's happening there.. this is FSX with GenXv1 and default airfields/scenery. Anyway.. I can do without flying toward Manchester  (Sorry DM) :worried:
After I'd landed on Ark the first time.. I taxiied over to the first cat (near the stbd approach lights).. saw sparks.. then the sim went into a continuous slideshow putting up shots from various angles. WTF is THIS all about!!?? :dunno: I take it the sparks were me crashing/going off the edge of a bit of deck scenery (although I wasn't over the edge.. not by a long way) :dunno: I eventually got control back (don't ask me how) and was able to move back to that cat and perform a takeoff.. I think straight into the sea but can't be sure  Whatever.. I got back inside and did another landing.. the end result of which you can see here with me nicely parked up. Home in time for tiffin

Overall.. somethin aint right here but I've no way of knowing where to start. All I need now is for Hermes to be 'jobbed' to the same level as Ark and I'll be quids in  Pity the AI ships spit you off sometimes when they change course so it pays to be in a helo with the engines running continually
