Acceleration has been ordered and should be here tomorrow ;-) I know that SP2 will have to be removed before I do the install (that is if I get the right DVD in the box!) but I can't remember if SP1 has to go too?? I don't think it does but I'd be obliged if someone could confirm ;-)
Dave, you can leave SP1 where it is - Acceleration installs over the top.
Re FD5, if you want to give it a try you can have my copy; it's gathering dust as it's not even good enough to use as a coaster (get it) much less an aircraft carrier. Included planes and flight models are absolute poo and as previously stated the carriers are unusable outside of missions. There are some good bits like the talk-down but overall it really is a complete waste of space.
Thanks very much for the offer but I think I'll pass Tks too for confirmation that SP1 can stay put. I was pretty sure it did but a 'senior moment' suddenly gave me doubts
Just got order confirmation and now find it's not going to be despatched until either tomorrow or Wed!! Don't you just love Amazon
Regarding carrier opps and stuff,
From what I can gather if you want full nav aid's and AI then the ship will have to have an AFCAD and that can't be done on a moving model. There are also alternative apps to use like 3wire and RCB gauge pack (I think) to simulate arrested and assisted T/O and landings. Also with static carriers and an AFCAD you can start from where you want in the sim and set the weather to give you a 20 Knts head wind. In my opinion a moving carrier is eye candy and mission based instead of free flight. I also think that Accelerator really should have been included in FSX and not as a additional purchase even if it raised the price a bit. With so many flavours of the Sim out there: Service pack 1, service pack 2, acceleration, clean install it is a nightmare for 3rd party devs to get something that is supported across the board and there should only be one standard that we have to worry about.

Not really, the one I have operating off Gib is usable any time I want and is a sight more realistic than landing on a static one which is effectively just a really short runway. There's an app around which will generate a moving carrier (and any other shipping) where ever you want so again not a problem, and you don't have to spend time setting up an AFCAD file to position it, it does it in game.
Sure a moving carrier won't have Nav Aids but I've never really seen that as a problem.
Should Acc been included in FSX, probably but then the development time would have been even longer and I doubt MS/ACES could have afforded that.
Well.. considering my copy was supposed to be posted today, I got an email later saying it had been posted and I've just installed it so here goes.. or not as the case may be
Ben has set up Hermes to sail from Guz every other Tuesday ICW Glamorgan.. arriving in Gib a couple of days later. They then both sail for Guz the following Tuesday. Don't know how he did it but it didn't require an afcad.. they just wind up at the correct times and off they go. A matelot once more ;-)
I have probs seeing them leave at Guz mind you.. they both disappear at sailing time. Ben says this is a known problem though why it happens is less clear.
Right.. off to see if I can find Ark sailing from Liverpool
Having set up several moving AI carriers and destroyers with decks, I have to say its brilliant, and certainly not just eye candy. Quite the contrary, if a ship is stactic surely thats just I candy as it serves no other purpose and just sits there, as skippy said, its really just a short runway. I find the AI ships a reason to move to FSX... so long as they are landable of course
As an aside, what sort of NAVAids, do Carriers or destroyers / frigates have?
i don't know if its just me, but on Hermes and the Ark, Im getting occassional pitching, making it quite life like (albeit theres no roll) Is anyone else getting this? Its not very sever, just intermitantly pleasant lol
