Soft suspension?

Post by hobby »

I have an FS9 acft which seems to oscillate vertically during taxying as though the nosewheel had very soft suspension, since I prefer not to proceed like zebedee from the MR, can anyone please tell me how to cure this 'bounce'?

Hi Hobby
OK Just wondered if it was one familiar to me :)

Her'e what you can try

You need to look at the contact points and the lines.....probably the first lines that start with 1 as the first parameter.that is a wheel. The eleventh parameter in the line is the value you want to change. It will be zero on all the lines except the wheel entries.

Back the CFG up and have a play with those figures

This is the gen for that parameter

11 (0.90) Damping Ratio This ratio describes how well the ground reaction oscillations are damped. A value of 1.0 is considered critically damped, meaning there will be little or no osciallation. A damping ratio of 0.0 is considered undamped, meaning that the oscillations will continue with a constant magnitude. Negative values result in an unstable ground handling situation, and values greater than 1.0 might also cause instabilities by being “over” damped. Typical values range from 0.6 to 0.95.

I've seen this a few times, and it doesn't seem to be dependant on aircraft. For example, DM's Trident would always do it at Larzac (a small airport in southern France) but not at most airports. I know this isn't very helpful...

I have also noticed this with several different aircraft - the only factor I can find in common was a bitumus runway surface.
The plot thickens!

that runway type is tagged as rough in FS9 & FSX

thats all it is

ie: it's not the models but the surface type

Rick

Ah, I thought so, thanks Rick for confirming. Now does Macadam behave the same way? I ask because James mentioned Larzac so I checked Afcad for LFCM and the long runway 14/32 is Macadam. The short runway 14R/32L is gravel which will certainly be rough.

:drinkers: for those rough landings!

Been unable to use internet since Wed last due to ISP server suffering a major problem. Now back online but have to completely re-install FS9.

Before losing contact I read advice on altering the seventh value in the contact points data for the nosewheel of the FS9 Tracker. After a few adjustments that worked well and I was using the runway at Seatle for my test surface. Be back to this once I have re-installed FS9.

Perhaps by Tuesday.

No idea why you have to re-install FS9 Hobby :dunno:

nigel..
In FS9 at least.. a 'normal' runway like LHR is nice and flat.. no problemo. Gravel will have you bouncing around a bit and 'Macadam' is like landing on a water bed (or.. like landing a seaplane on water) :) Great for getting good landing figures on FlyNET unless you're a complete div!
