Ian,

Here is the list of suitable WoA files to edit...I have worded it for less experienced chaps than yourself in case anyone else likes Chek Li Kok :dancer:

62 WoA Traffic files that contain Flight Plans to VHHH (Chek Li Kok) which can be diverted to VHHX (Kai Tak)...I suggest that you divert one third of all VHHH flightplans to VHHX.

This will reduce the load on VHHH and send in a very suitable amount of AI Traffic for VHHX. Both airports will then be comfortable with the Traffic Slider at 100%.

Remember that each Airports.txt file in the decompiled package (Ttools) must have this added...VHHX,N22* 19.01',E114* 12.11',0
Copy and paste it to underneath the VHHH entry and Save the file then close it. If you forget to do this then you will be reminded when you try to re-compile the package in Ttools after editing the FlightPlans.txt file with your divertions (you will be told that VHHX does not exist).

Peter - thanks for posting the list of packages. I've been at work all afternoon and evening, but when I just went to check that I had them all, I found that I have quite a few more airlines at HKG than you have listed. So I checked on the 'airports' section on the World of AI website
http://www.world-of-ai.com/airports.php.

If you search for VHHH it lists 64 WoAI packages that visit the airport. This includes Cargo airlines and business jets.

I'm wondering if you had a reason for not listing them all (perhaps to reduce congestion) or whether you simply missed a few? If you are already busy with 42, then another 22 won't be welcome - except for the landing charges!

BTW. My biggest criticism of the scenery is the pine trees on the hills surrounding the harbour. As you know, pine trees are not natural to Hong Kong and there are no trees at all on the hills - they are quite bare. So the large pine trees in the FlyTampa scenery really spoil the general atmosphere of the view for me. Do you know if all the trees in FS are lumped into one file or are they separated by species? My question being: do you know whether it is possible to delete just the pine trees and leave the rest of the vegetation intact?

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian,

Re the trees, it really depends how they have een added. If there is a separtate bgl file with them in as part of the package, a quick rename of that file will sort them out. If however they have been compiled in one of the scenery bgl that contains something key, taking them out could take out a lot more besides.

Best bet is to post the question to their support, and explain that you have first hand experience of the area, and if they are reasonable they may will remove them, or at least point you in the direction of how to get rid of them.

Thanks for that, Ben. I'll probably take your advice and mention it to their support. It probably seems such a minor point in an otherwise superb package that I sound over-critical, but if you're used to a particular landscape being barren and bare and then unexpectedly see huge pine trees on the peaks it's a bit disconcerting! I was doubting my memory so I did a google image search for Hong Kong and those hills are definitely bare

Cheers

Well Ian...I do have all those packages and the other 22 will be using CLK, but I was not aware of that method of finding a WoA airlines to an airport so I just went to CLK and strolled around making an airlines list from all I saw the I changed the time by four hours and strolled around again adding to the list...I repeated this a few times but obviously those 22 were not on the ground at the times that I looked. I'm very happy now with the 100% density of Traffic at both airports now so I'll leave it as is.

With regards to the Pines...I suspect they are Autogen and you could easily check this by pulling your Autogen slider to zero and seeing if they disappear. If they are Autogen then they could only really be banished with a Landclass file.

Thanks again, Peter. I still haven't decided what to do with my AI. I think I might send ALL the WoAI passenger traffic back to VHHH and leave the cargo at VHHX along with my classics and RAF. Then if I get lonely, I'll do what you've done and split it in thirds.

The trees are definitely autogen and disappear when I turn the slider to off, so I'll live with it. I don't have much time to look at the scenery, anyway. But just as an illustration here is a comparison.

I'll mention it on the FlyTampa support forum when it lets me register, but I'm not too bothered.

I notice two Green and White Star Ferries in your photo...That is how I remember them but I have not noted any green and white ships in the Fly Tampa scenery...I must look more closely. Surely they must be there!

BTW...I travel free on the Star Ferries :dancer:

Excellent comparative shots Ian :flying:

I'm sure I saw a Star ferry at the Central terminal and I think there was one at the Kowloon terminal as well. As you say, no Hong Kong scene is complete without at least a couple of them ploughing across the harbour! I think it is one of the really great experiences of life - to cross the harbour in a Star ferry. Everybody should try to do it before they die! The traffic in the harbour is unbelievable and how there aren't several collisions a day, I have no idea.

So how come you get to travel for nothing? Not that it costs much anyway - I seem to remember it was about 5p second class and 10p first class but I expect inflation has hit it now! Do you have a special pass or something? What a status symbol!

Speaking of harbour traffic, that's the other unreal part of the scenery - it is so deserted and the AI ships seem to make it feel more so. Obviously, you'd need a super computer to run the amount of traffic that the real harbour hosts, but it's a shame there isn't more static stuff like the thousands of sampans in the typhoon shelters.

Cheers

Yes indeed although my memories of the experience are not as joyful as one would hope for. Twas in HK over XMAS 74/75 on HMS Blake and we had the misfortune to meet up with a gang of merchant sailors in Kowloon who'd just paid off. Much booze and very little sleep later.. I awoke to see the time at 0810 leaving me and my 4 amigo's terribly adrift (AWOL put another way) and I remember us all looking across at the Blake.. sh1t scared of what would happen to us as we bobbed across HK harbour.

In the end.. we needn't have worried. 4 days leave and 2 days pay was all we got (the ship was under sailing orders) :'( Next port of call was Borneo towit a 2 day steam and a 3 day visit meant only one day ashore (not that there's a great deal to see anyway unless you like trees)

Ah.. the exuberance of youth
