Re: RNAS Ford
Hi James..
Someone posted info on it a while ago though I can't remember if it gave much actual airfield data. Try doing a search and see what pop's up

Re: RNAS Ford
Hi there I had a rummage around, and although they're not 'period' images, these do show the remaining structures as they are today, so they might be some help? http://worldwar2airfields.fotopic.net/c464339.html
Kind regards
John
PS RNAS Ford (or HM?S Peregrine) lives on, albeit in name only, as the title of the Royal Navy's photographic awards 'The Peregrine Trophy'. I was lucky enough to attend the awards this year and they have some talented people!

Re: RNAS Ford
For John: Thank you for those images. Hard to imagine that 50 years ago RNAS Ford was an active station with Sea Hawks etc. in the circuit.
It would appear from a recent TV report that the immediate surroundings are the proposed site for a large new 'ecotown' which those living nearby find revolting and recently staged a demonstration against the developers and others concerned.
Our countryside will shortly be one big suburban (sub-urban) area from JOG to LE!

Re: RNAS Ford
I am still 'bumbling along' and trying to build some scenery for RAF Ford/HMS Peregrine using the 'google earth' image as a base.
Using AFCAD I now have the basic runways and with 'flattex' I have created both a 'flattened' area and and an 'exclude' area. Now I need to add some buildings and parking pads - for some reason those pads added with AFCAD do not show up in my FS9 scenery.
Does anyone use EZScenery by Abacaspub.com or perhaps forum users who are more skilled than I may care to recommend a good scenery building program, preferably with a military bias whch is very easy to use. I much admire some of the scenery recently produced by ukmil.

Re: RNAS Ford
I have decided to learn how to use EZ-Scenery by Abacus to add to a rough airfield layout, this is very much a 'learn while doing the job' exercise, and I now have runways, peri track, control tower, ILS etc courtesy of AFCAD.
I found the following two files which seem to offer some excellent ground handling equipment but I am an unable to persuade EZ-Scnry to compile bgls. The two zip files are jgse_v3 and ggse_v3 by John Stinstrom downloaded from Avsim. Neither of these ziops contain any mdl files - could that be the problem?
Can any forum member who uses EZ-Scenery help please?
My airfield is very rough and ready because I am waiting on the Imp War Museum to produce an o/h post war photo of RAF Ford - I am told that could take up to three weeks - hence I have chosen to use the time as a self instruction period on using scenery building programs.

Re: RNAS Ford
The problem referred to in previous post was solved via the following email earlier today from John Stinstron, the author of jgse_v3 & ggse_v3 zips.
"The ground service vehicle objects are already in the standard FS9 library format and do not need any alterations (the model files are integrated into the .bgl files.) Simply place the .bgl and texture files into an active scenery area (.bgl files into the scenery folder and textures into the texture folder). When you start EZ Scenery you should be able to scroll down and select the libraries the same way you would , say, the default vehicles library. I would recommend putting the files into a dedicated EZ scenery folder to keep the files seperate in case you ever want to remove them."
Very simple solution providing a really worthwhile selection green and/or yellow ground handling equipment eg tractors, fire and refuelling vehicles, various towing vehicles. They are undoubtedly of US origin but with the maintenace ladders etc. the nationality of origin matters very little because one stand looks much the same as any other in different parts of the world.
The use of these files, together with the EZ-Scenery items by a Mr Simms, US veteran of the Viet Nam conflict might help forum members to produce their own British/NATO bases wherever they wish.
I had to turn to US equipment because I cannot find comparable NATO or British items.
My rough and ready airfield (HMS Hobby?) is beginning to look quite operational with the RAF Regt patrolling a perimeter track and manning airfield defences, we now have ILS, NDB & VOR facilities and this first learning exercise is proving to be both interesting and rewarding.
Hope to have a far better airfield by the time Steve's Sea Hawk is released.

Re: RNAS Ford
Hobby,
The next thing to do is show us a picture of it...If you don't have the knowledge to do that, then send me a screenshot by email and I will put it in my server after processing and send you back an URL for publishing here :flying:
If you have a screenshot (preferably a .jpg file rather than a .bmp file) then email it as an attachment to:-

Note change the AT in that address to @

Re: RNAS Ford
Looking forward to seeing it, Hobby. What with the Karel Doorman and Ford, we should have two nice homes to start the Sea Hawk off with.

Steven Beeny, repainter and modeller. New Canberra series for FS9 out now.
