Re: Leuchars - loads of pics
What a collection! Brilliant mate, and thanks very much for taking the time.
What happened to that Mossie?
Is that starfighter in RAF colours, or is it just me?
Possibly my favourite one is the Victor... what a beast

Re: Leuchars - loads of pics
A great set of photos, great British aircraft and a great set of memories since some of them no longer fly. :-(

It was destroyed in at crash during an air display at Barton in July 1996.XR219 wrote:What happened to that Mossie?
No, it's just you - it's Canadian. If you look closely, you'll see that's a red Maple Leaf in the centre of the roundel.XR219 wrote: Is that starfighter in RAF colours, or is it just me?

Re: Leuchars - loads of pics
Nice post Steve, some fondly remembered aircraft in amongst that lot.
Re: Leuchars - loads of pics
Thanks for the kind words folks. Does anyone know what happened to that Gannet in the pics above and the Vampire in 43Squadron markings? The Gannet left Leuchars as a flier but seems to have disappeared without trace. I think that the Vampire moved to Errol but hasn't been seen there for some years now.
Thanks for the comment. I don't have any photos of 29 Squadron Phantoms, the ones above are 43 Squadron. If you can make use of mine, pm me and I'll email higher resolution scans.
It might be worth your while making enquiries over at the modelling forums for 29 Squadron pics. During the 1980s there were quite a few sets of decals for RAF Phantoms on the market. These usually came with accompanying photos to help with the awkward bits, like stencils, etc.
Best wishes

Hi Pete,PeteP wrote:
Do you know the date the 29 Squadron Phantom in Barley Grey was taken and do you by any chance have any more? We're repainting Tangmere's Phantom (XV408) in these colours - 29 Squadron was the main night-fighter squadron there (Mosquito NF36 and Meteor NF11 and NF14) in the post-war period and was directly involved in the 1946 Donaldson, 1953 Duke and 1956 Twiss World Airspeed Record attempts while operating from Tangmere so it's time it had some proper representation at the museum albeit by an aircraft the squadron never operated from there - and additional photos to those we already have would be most useful.
