Re: DirectX june edition available
Hi Tony
Well.. it's difficult to nail the source of the problem down as for every error I get in FS9.. there are a multitude of possibilities. I built a system up recently using WinXPSP2 as a base. As soon as that was loaded.. on went SP3 and DX May 08 followed by FS9/9.1 then FSX.. a pristine version of Windows fully up to date on a brand new system. What could be better!
I started the slow process of putting on my addon scenery while running the system in doing VA flights and the errors started.. terrain.dll.. g2d.dll.. g3d.dll and finally unknown module :-( I have problems with the Vanguard (of all the aircraft for me to have problems with!!) that are unseen on any of my other systems and there's no explanation for it. Most annoying mate
Is it SP3 causing this.. DirectX May 08 or something as innocent as the latest ATI Cat drivers
I can't roll the drivers back as there's nothing for them to roll back to. I'm loathe to try and pull SP3 as both sims were loaded with SP3 in place (were it the other way around.. I'd be less cautious). FSX seems to run ok but there's something in that mix FS9 doesn't like. The last live flight I did on it was from Brize to Lyneham. The sim was showing 1fps on takeoff and I didn't get very far before it completely spit out and restarted the pc on it's own! :o

Re: DirectX june edition available

I am running Vista and the DirectX Diagnostic Tool says that DX10 is installed although no version number is mentioned. Do I need to install this update which seems to be for DX9? There seems to be very little about DX10 on the MS site.
Thanks.

Re: DirectX june edition available
DX9 and DX10 are two different products, but both run on Vista. You can and should apply the DX9 updates to a vista system.
Here is the link...

You'll notice that Vista is listed in the supported OS's at the bottom of the page.

Thanks Ben,
I noticed that Vista was mentioned but as DX10 is installed I wasn't sure what to do! I can't find any trace of DX9 on my system, although it's probably there but I'm looking in the wrong places!
Downloading now.

DX9 is there, but DXDiag will only report DX10 as that is the highest level of DX supported. Hope that makes sense. ;-)

Hi Dave,
I have problems with the Vanguard (even starting is temperamental) with the following:
Windows XP and SP3
FS9.1
DX9
Nvidia 8600 GT
Installing SP3 made no difference so that cannot be the problem. I did get it to behave once I got rid of Norton, but that was only temporary as the problems with starting reappeared next time in ran FS9.1.
I don't understand either.........................

Re: DirectX june edition available
Well, I have not updated DirectX yet, but I installed Fs9.1 on XP SP2 (clean) and updated to SP3 later. Absolutely no issues - although except the Maltby wonders, chippie, JP and Glacier bay, Andover, Dove etc, I've not added a lot of other stuff back in yet.....
