FS2004 "No CD" utility

Post by mgchristy »

What a great idea! I stumbled across this neat utility a few weeks ago. I'm sure it's been around for some time, but it's news to me:

http://198.164.146.97/fanda/

It allows you to run FS2004 without disk 4 present in your CD/ROM drive. I've been using it for the last few weeks with no issues whatsoever. It saves wear & tear on your disk drive, and as a bonus it seems to boot up the sim quicker, too (at least on my machine). Be SURE to follow the 'read me' file and backup/rename your original FS2004 .exe file.

This is the only forum that even mentioning this topic doesn't result in threats of banishment to Siberia (thanks to pressure from Micro$oft) :@ . I found it long before that time and I saved it to CD with tender loving care. And there's always GOOGLE, too. :D

My original FS9 disc 4 is looking quite knackered, I should have used one of these :D

I always use no-cd/no-dvd patches on every game I own, back in the good old days when the disc was damaged beyond repair they would kindly ship you out a replacement one but these days it's hard to even get a response from the big publishers and developers so I prefer to keep the discs safely tucked away and use them for installing only.

Serves me right for being a 'computer-unfriendly' person! I honestly don't know how I never came across similar utilities before.

I'll be sure to send some postcards from Siberia. I hear it's beautiful there this time of year...

Sure are, count me as one of them Dave, until now that is. :dancer:

Brilliant Mark, my poor old disk is showing its' age and I have been worried that one day it may just not work, very many thanks for posting that one.

Regards
Nigel.
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

I really can't believe that we're here.. some 18months or so into FSX and there are still folk out there who didn't know about the nocd crack for the old sim!! I've had it on my space here on the ftp for longer than I can remember along with the 9.1 patch so all you had to do was ask
