massive engined Pulling tractor.

Post by bigred1970 »

I was messing around on the internet and I found information on this monster. it is supposed to be the pulling tractor that has the largest engine.

it is a russian 42 cylinder Radial engine, (6 banks of 6 cylinders). I think is is like 8500 cubic inches.

here is a link of it from YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsa08DyvzUU&NR=1

here is a web sight with some better videos of it.

this is the engine that it has mounted on it.

I used to go to tractor pulls when I was a kid but the biggest engines I saw was allison and turbine engines. this would be fun to listentoo. 8)

oh and here is a team that uses a Curtiss Wright R-3350 to power there tractor.

that is what I like about this sport. if it runs on methenol, and the tractor you put it on is under the weight limit. you can run it......

What's scary is those turbine engined tractors with the intakes just a foot or two off all that FOD-able dirt.

yeah I meant to say that :worried: late night had my math mixed up.

anyway, it is nice to see these engines living on, even if it is not the way the orgiginal manufacturer imagined.

I read up a bit on that engine. It's a 42 cylinder diesel rotary that was used in certain classes of patrol boats. The original version (before being modified by the tractor pull folks) was a real beast and ugly as sin. Must have been interesting to work on at sea, that's for sure.

Maybe it was a Radial rather than a Rotary

Err...did I type rotary? Should have been radial, of course - what I get for typing when I'm dog tired.

Oopsie! :$
