The damn uninstall wouldn't run, hence my predicament. Basically then, I'm screwed?

Well I'm now getting a different error error 1311. Source file not found c:\WINDOWS\installer\D1Feat~7.cab Verify that the file exists and that you can access it

I'm still trying to avoid the dreaded re-format!

Well, I shall probably re-format. Will do my system good I suppose if I start from scratch! One question though, I presume I can transfer all my programs (i-tunes etc) over to my new hard disk before re-installing windows on my current hard disk? Will they be safe there or will a re-format & install of windows on the other disk bugger them up?

Hi Rob,

A reformat of your C drive will bugger most things as the registry and the opperating system are on there. If its not something you've done before, or something you are comfortable with, don't do it yourself. Do you have a friend who is computer aware? Its really best to get someone who knows the consequencesof what you are doing. On the other hand, it could be a good learning experience, but plan for the worst case. I really recommend getting a book before you atempt anything on this scale, if you haven't done it before. The "Windows for Dumbies" or "An idiots guide to Windows" are pretty good usually, I have a few of them myself.

Thanks Ben. I've backed everything up I need onto my external hard drive now. I'm going to re format using the XP disk that came with my machine and do it that way. A mate who is pretty clued up on these things recommended to do it that way. I started the process............but because my keyboard is wireless I couldn't make the appropriate selection!! DOH! Going to have to wait until I go back to work and I'll borrow that one!
