Just been reading up on the 8800gt, certainly a lot of people say it's the best bang for your buck if you can't afford a $600 card.
I have been thinking of getting one of these. my rig is almost 2 years old now and has a 7950GT in it, would I see much of a diff do you think?
Also I don't have that fast of a rig
A8N-SLI DELUXE mobo
AMD Athalon times2 dual core 4800 2.41 ghz
3 gig of ram
Win XP
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ Stepping:JH-E6 (Socket 939)
2412.3 MHz (current clock speed: 2412.3 MHz)
Rig is great and very stable
So would I be good to go just swapping out vid cards ? as I can't run to a brand new rig this year. I see I can get 8800GT for under about $200 but there are different types of 8800GT

Re: Vid card help
I went from a 6800 GS Extreme Edition (OC'd from the factory) with 256 Mb of VRAM to an 8800 GT with 512 Mb of VRAM and I saw a very big improvement in all the games I play using the same base rig.
As to different types, there are as many different types as there are manufacturers. They each tweak their cards in some way or another but they are all based on the same Nvidia technology. I use one from Galaxy which came with a huge, over sized, heatsink and fan and I have been very pleased with it's performance so far. I got it from TigerDirect.ca but I am not sure if the version with the larger heatsink is still available.

Re: Vid card help
The 7950GT is a superb card and more than adequate for the rest of your system. Personally I'd stick with what you've got and not bother upgrading the card until you get a 3GHz+ Core2 system.
