This may have been asked before, but why did Coastal Command operate the Varsity ?
Great paints Nigel, the Varsity is a favourite of mine.

I'm not entirely sure, I think it may have been in the comms role. I was very surprised to find a photo of WF330 in Coastal Command colours nonetheless!!
All uploaded to avsim now, over to them
Best wishes

I am pretty sure it was part of the Met research flight based at (possibly) Ballykelly in N.I., I also have seen a photo saying that a Varsity was attached to HQ Coastal Command as a liason aircraft.

It's a bit like that Coastal Command Hastings we came across recently......unusal type but operated in small numbers.
Reeling off a list of CC types I doubt if many would include either.
Good to see the rarer ones

Thanks all. Ah, the days when we could afford liason aircraft. ;-)

According to a small monograph on the Varsity:
".....issued in small quantities to a variety of other units, including some which used the aircraft for communications, notably .......... the Station Flights at Coastal Command bases."
And WF330 was issued to Station Flight St Mawgan in 1959 which matches the date of the photo:

Sorry to bring bad news, Nigel.
The DL for WJ948 has no .cfg mod in the folder. Not a problem for me, but it might confuse some folks.
