Phone scam
(I don't know how true this is, but I have just had this message passed on to me.)
Please pass this to Everyone you know with a mobile phone
Dear All
If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he or she is a company engineer,
or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end
this call immediately without pressing any numbers.
There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your 'SIM' card and
make calls at your expense.
Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives andfriends as you can, to stop it.
Many thanks for your time regarding this matter, take care and regards.

Re: Phone scam
Quick heads up from snopes, seems this is only partially true:
http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/jailcall.asp
So if you do forward it to everyone on your address book be sure to give them the facts rather than forwarding the original scaremongering e-mail.
(
I have a real pet hate for these "AOL and Microsoft have said there is a new virus"/"forward this and Alan Sugar will pay for this cancer sufferers treatment"/"avoid this or you will be scammed" type e-mails and messages. In fact 99.9% of them are identical to ones I've seen for over ten years floating around on the internet, just with a few words changed. In fact I'm almost certain I've seen this one before but with #60 or #06 instead.

Re: Phone scam
Point taken Chris, but I posted in good faith stating I didn't know if it was true, rather on the basis that it is better to be safe than sorry.
I will certainly pass on that link.

Re: Phone scam
I seem to vaguely remember a few years ago a similar scam involving land lines. You received a call and were asked to press a particular key which connected your phone to a premium line in an off shore tax haven?

Sorry if my initial post came off a bit harsh. I was having a bad morning, I didn't mean to sound so irritated! :flying:Filonian wrote:Point taken Chris, but I posted in good faith stating I didn't know if it was true, rather on the basis that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Phone scam
No problems Chris, no offence taken whatsoever.
However, you may be interested in the reply I have just received from a friend: -
"Thanks Graham. I checked with Lancashire Police & it is genuine. I have now passed it on to friends & family in Australasia as it would also apply to them as well."
