Hi Jelle :)

Yes indeedie!! I managed to find one shot of one of the red Moggies but it wasn't worth posting as it was in the background and seen through one of the Varsity's very dodgy bits of plexi (since changed). There's no sign of any of these either on the Brooklands website or at the site itself. Perhaps Julian has taken them all home! :dunno:

Nice shots mate and thanks for posting ;-) Incidentally.. we're doing an aircraft clean on EP 10 May if you have a spare day

Nice Moggies - the first shows Dan Dares propensity for buying ex gpo vehicles

Hi Dave,

There used to be a Courtline Minor as well, I've only got this photo of that one.

Julian did write about the Minor LCV but it's not on the Brooklands site indeed. Try his own site (his name + .com) for that, there are some stories and photos hidden there. The Courtline Minor is currently stored awaiting repairs I think but I've long given up on tracking Julian's Minors ;-)

DispatchDragon: there's a chance that it is an ex-GPO Minor which has just been painted in those colours.

I'd love to help out on May 10th, but the commute from Amsterdam might be a bit of a problem there. I think I'll pass this time. My only washing experiences are on the VC10 anyway so I don't think I'd be suitable for the job. :dancer:

P.s. You'd have to beat this for a cleaning team by the way:

If you saw A40 now mate.. you'd be in tears. Give it the rest of this year and she'll not be visible on Google Earth  We're all surrounded by trees now since being moved off the airfield and the VC10 is not doing well. The Viscount (directly behind) isn't too bad as she's comparatively small to clean.. likewise the Varsity. We're to the left of the Viscount and got a good scrub toward the end of last year but you'd be hard pushed to tell now. :o

Going green again I guess? That's not surprising, that's how I first met her. The problem with the '10 is that it's just a bit big for a quick clean on a Saturday afternoon I guess. There used to be a deal where some RAF guys helped out for a cleaning day but you had to get a cherry-picker and the fire crew there too.

By the way, did you know that it's supposed to be A4O with an 'O' for Oscar? If the signs at Brooklands are wrong make sure to point that out ;-) , I only found out myself not too long ago, it confuses a lot of people

Hello Jelle :)

Yeh.. she used to get pretty mucky before but since she's been sitting next to the trees.. going a bit green again doesn't come into it. Good news is that she's a haven for wagtails!! We often sit on the FD of EP watching them come and go

Incidentally.. the reg is completely painted out and has been for ages as the Sultan reused it..

I know that it's not on the aircraft anymore (see here also: http://www.vc10.net/History/Individual/ ... ultan.html) but it may still be mentioned on signs etc around Brooklands. At least you can tease the VC10 team about it, most of them will probably not know it ;-)

Thanks for all the memories...I enjoyed all the pictures...Especially the ones on the "Swing Around" stands, prior to the age of "Pushback". They were so convenient to use from the pilots point of view...No question of having to wait for a tug. You just started up and went.

They had to take out those forward airstairs when piers and pushbacks arrived :'(

My Vanguard periods were:-

Feb 1965 - Oct 1971 as First Officer
Aug 1973 - Dec 1974 as Captain
