Surely the aircraft, having been successfully trapped doe not appear to have completed a landing. The main wheel tyres do not look compressed at all so the full weight of the aircraft is not on the mainwheels yet, perhaps another half second on and the aircraft will have completed the landing.

Having watched some footage of Gannets landing on last night they don't have a typical carrier landing, i.e. slams into deck, catches wire, weight of aircraft ends up almost all resting on the nose wheel as it screams towards the edge of the flight deck and then collapse. It's more touch down, bounce down the deck a bit catch a wire on the way past and then trundle to a stop! When I say bounce down the deck the nose oleo appears to collapse and expand about three or four times during the process! Although I now have no idea what state the oleo is on the one in the picture!!
I was going to say get one of the DVDs from http://www.eavb.co.uk/video/dvd/rnindex.html but they appear to be running out of stock!

Now evident from those shots Ben posted is that the front gear most certainly isn't on full compression and Skip's estimate of around 70% looks to be bang on ;-) We'll never know for certain exactly where this puts the landing but it's still got some feet to go. My earlier estimate of a second or two can be cut back to a second into the catch me thinks. Better get the Ark DVD's out this afternoon or nip onto Pathe Looks like a peach of a landing however the story is told ;-)

Hi Skippybing. Your message understood, thanks.

So does one surmise that good landings by Gannets have a sort of 'Zebedee' (ex 'Magic Roundabout' cast) chatacteristic. Bit frightening with a rough sea at night - one might have to be rather speedy to 'go round' successfully under less than perfect conditions.

Anyone here piloted or ridden in a real Gannet and experienced carrier landings under any weather/sea conditions?
