Hi Folks

Lovely shot John.
Particularly the handlers.

Whose carrier model is that please ?

My apologies about being 'picky'.

Not sure about the title - "Nearly 50 years on..."
- Commemorating Harrier & precedent versions - Yes.
- Maritime - 5 years plus to go.
- Ski-jump useage - We've a decade plus to wait.

FWIU -
- First complete VTOL to forward flight took place in September 1961.
- First carrier vertical landing was demonstrated on HMS Ark Royal in 1963.

Weren't the initial Yeovilton ski-jump tests in the mid 70's ?

ISTR that Invincible was originally designed without,
then during construction
had the 7 degree jump added.

Earliest possible for pic would be Invincible trials
either 78 or 79
though can't recall if Harrier deck landings were involved.

EDIT -
My apologies John.
Your text explicitly refers to the Harrier itself,
rather than the context of your beautiful pic.

I've never felt so frustrated....... died so frequently/spectacularly/or needlessly....... yet had so much fun, in a long time.

And I'm sorry to be 'picky' back, but I'm 100% sure that I said nothing about the ski jump and its age etc... what I think I said was "... and the Harrier is still amazing!"

Still there ya go ;-)

Thanks for liking the shot

Hi Folks

My apologies John
I had realised that,
and was editing accordingly whilst you'd posted.

It was having worked on Invincible's construction
that had attracted my comments.

Hi Folks

Ooops again.
Reason posted in edit.
I was serving part of my apprenticeship on Invincible's construction.
