Learning to paint...

Hi Guys

I had been looking for a KLM DC-9-30 for AI for some time. Not having had any luck, I set out this morning to see what I could do.
Having never even attempted to paint a flightsim model before, it was a slow process.
after a while, though it started to look ok



A few more hours work and some good advice from the good people over at RetroAI and it started to look good







It still needs detail adding, but I'm very pleased with my first attempt.

Looking very nice...the dark blue looks a bit deep.but hey it's a KLM DC9.

You've proved that the first and best way to start painting is to give it a go

There is plenty of help around if you need it...and very satifying when you get a result.

I colour matched the paint to another KLM repaint (not my own), using Photoshop elements.
I find the white band below the deep blue difficult to see (it is there). Perhaps this will improve when I add the 'Royal Dutch airlines' lettering.
I've also, finally got the hang of using layers, which has been bugging me for ages.
If, no when I get this finished theres a nice little DC-8 scheme I might have a go at.

Yep.. stay with it Kevin ;-)

I know from bitter experience that the 'simple' art of painting is akin to the black art of flight dynamics and that KLM is a nice job for your first attempt Move on to your next paint and you'll think the first one was rubbish.. move on to the next and the second will seem rubbish.. the way of the world unfortunately The first one wasn't rubbish of course and neither was the second but the more you do.. the better they get ;-)

I haven't abandoned it...just been away for the Easter weekend.

I have managed a little progress

1. Horizontal stabiliser is now white.

2. Slightly darkened lower fuselage, allowing white stripe to show more clearly

3. Added 'Royal Dutch Airlines'' titling in white stripe

4. Added 'Day-Glo' to wingtips

5. Added flag and registration - may need moving aft and registration enlarging slightly.



To do....

'Douglas' logo and 'DC-9' lettering to add to engines.

Already planning my next two projects.

Looks great, and if thats only your first attempt, you definitely seem to have a talent for it. I'm thinking of having a crack at repainting when Alphasim's B-24 comes out.
