RNZAF Museum - The Main Building (and airfield)

Post by PeteP »

A novel idea - having the air force recruiting office located next to the museum!

The imposing main entrance.

The next 3 aircraft are all displayed in the entrance hall.

The main aircraft hall - having only a digital compact with me, I was constantly fighting the low-level "atmospheric lighting in the hall but these shots should give a fair idea of how well the aircraft are displayed here.

An Aussie interloper.

A number of exhibits showed the work of the Kiwis in Antarctica.

The 1930s hangars which hold the restorations and reserve collection. The single-storey building at the front dates from the First World War and was used as officers' sleeping accommodation.

And finally, the control tower. Once an RNZAF training base, Wigram is still active as a GA airfield.

An absolutely superb museum with lots to see and do beyond viewing the aircraft. A long way to go but, if you do ever find yourself in the vicinity of Christchurch, it's well worth the effort.

Super shots Pete (Lucky B!!!tard  ), I would love to visit NZ too, those shots are great. I too am not a big fan of 'mood lighting', the RAF museum Bomber Command display is almost imposible to see, because it is meant to be night time :brick:
