A couple of old bits of paper...

I was looking through some old bits today and I found these two, tucked inside an S.O. BOOK 444. The first is a newspaper, an East African Standard, Friday, September 9, 1960:-




And the second is a Map as folded to fit into my flying suit leg pocket...I seem to remember it was all about attacking an old German Fort called Ikoma Fort and I see from my logbook that we did a sim R.P. strike there on 20th June 1961:-




The map is only 1:1000000 scale but that is what we used in Hunters.

I like poking through these old things and hope they will be of some interest here...The newspaper had to be scanned in three sections and then I spliced them together in Photoshop :flying:

Funny that!...I was always "Mac" in the R.A.F. and "Pete" in Civil Aviation...I was on the telephone to Australia the other day, talking to an old Rhodesian mate from 266 Squadron days. We were together for years and later we met up in Aden when he was on 8 Squadron...Anyway, we were exchanging postal and email addresses and he said, "Funny thing Mac, I have to admit that I don't know your first name!"

And as for the car...Well I have just purchased and absolutely love my Mercedes Smart car...It's Road Fund License is only £35 per annum and I think he (the Chancellor) has actually reduced that to £20 for 2010!! I took it from here in Devon to London and back a few weeks ago and averaged 52 MPG...I was rather hoping to get 60 MPG but did actually take the speedo to the end stop a few times (85 MPH) so I guess that explains it :think: I call it my "Little Aeroplane" and I am enjoying it immensely
