Strike Fighters Gold

Post by Tweek »

A pretty fun game, even if you're not shooting at stuff. The open source engine allows for plenty of mods being developed, much the same as FS. Certainly not bad for a tenner.

Of course, as with all third party addons, there are varying levels of quality. I do have a feeling the Americans have spent a little more time on their own aircraft! I think I'll have to stick with Phantoms, Starfighters and the like...

This lot aren't too bad, though. Could be better, could be worse!

You want too steer clear of anything by the A-Team group of developers. They make a habit of taking abandoned projects and then putting them out without doing much more than putting a skin on it (often badly).

The Mirage Factory on the other hand do some very good add-ons.

You can also download Wings Over Europe from the Third Wire website for about $30 I think. It's got an Hunter FGA 9 and a couple of early Harriers, fully compatible with Strike Fighters as well as Wings Over Vietnam and Wings Over Israel, anyone spot a theme there?

I've got Wings Over Vientam and Wings Over Europe (aka WoV & WoE) and have been having a blast. With the WeaponsPack addon, I not only get thoroughly realistic weapons, but I get a lot of the British weapons (including the JP33) that aren't included in the defaults. I have the Jag, 3 models of Tornado, Victor, and Vulcan all for the series and have tons of fun running low-level attacks on the unsuspecting Red Airbases with everything from 250kg bombs to Blue Danube devices.

I'd be going round bombing stuff if I had any idea how to bomb accurately!

Of course in Wings Over Israel the AI have got good, just spent half an hour trying to bomb a site and had MiGs shooting me down every time!
