Don't forget the spaciousness of the Vanguard flight deck as well :)

What makes you think we're sneering? The post was put up in a light hearted way
and that is how people have responded.

Budget cuts again?

I think a pair of real ones would have been too expensive....

Firstly I am not a big fan of glass cockpits but after seeing that.......(Now down to a whisper).....I'm impressed!! :dancer:

Not sure about the control column position though apart from the fact that you can have your eating tray in front without anything getting in the way of your dinner!!

Control columns?? looks like someone has stuck on a couple of FS joysticks, to me!!

Perhaps someone (Tonks?) will come up with a VC10 version of that...?

Grief.. so much happens in a day I'd completely forgot I posted this (been working on a Vanguard release for the Fsim community) :cpu:

It is a bit of a monster isn't it and probably a great deal bigger IRL. What can you say other than WOW!! Not my particular bag but you've gotta appreciate what's gone into it ;-)

Re those boobs on the pedestal.. I think they're a 'brace' for the pilots 'other' hand. Don't recall seeing them on earlier Scarebuses but these things evolve and the 380 doesn't share any similar space restrictions as the slightly smaller aircraft in the fleet. The chap in the LH seat will fly with his left hand so what the hell does he do with his right?? Put it on his lap.. use it hold a cuppa?? No.. I reckon it's there for him to 'hang onto' giving more control. Likewise for the chap sitting in the RH seat. Could be totally wrong mind you but this explanation seems logical.. to me :) There may be control buttons on them too. Not tried seeing from that angle.

The Impressive thing about all Airbus products from the 320 onward is the commonality of cockpits - I remember (vaguely) a conversation with an Airbus rep
that the concept was you could type rate on a 320 and fly anything up to a 340 and the 340/380 would be a common type rating . To that end they seem to have
achieved that goal. I was wondering about the "bumps" in the center pedestal as well , I thought as first as they are immeadiatly behind the MCDU's they
might the the printer heads that on the 320/319/318 series are at the back end of the center console, Judging by the computer in the center seat position
I would assume this is one of the flight test aircraft and that the seat has been furnished for a flight test engineer (which would also explain the use of
sticky tape and the big crease in the bottom of the flight deck door) Actually thinking about Daves comment - if it is one of the flight test aircraft then handholds might be an answer (something to grab onto while doing AlphaProt testing) The seat covers - well they are very comfortable - having sat in the
fleece lined jumpseat of A320s for many hours.

Just my thoughts

Oh yes - from my big gold A320 systems manual courtesy of NWA/NATCO
1/. anyone care to guess at the bearing strength of the crew "desks"?? and
2/. Anyone know what happens if the PIC and the FO both decide to turn left and right at the same time?
And the sidesticks really do look like they were borrowed from a PC
