Graphics card.....

Post by Techy111 »

OK i am going to jump in here......so many people have been asking advice lately so its my turn...... :cpu:

I have a budget of £200 and at a push £250....ish

My system....

Latest Asus motherboard with the 1333fsb and ddr3 slots with P35 thingy bob.....

E6750 overclocked and stable at 2.87ghz

4 Gig PC5200 DDR2 333mhz ram

And a "cough" 450W PSU

Current card is a X1950 Pro (any offers...?)

I have always been a ATI sort of a person but am willing to swing both ways.....ohhh errrr missus..... :kissu:

Any recommendations on a GOOD card from any bodies personal experiences....?

Well if I were in your position I'd be tempted to go for an ATI Radeon 3870XT @ £146
That would then leave you with some spare cash for a new PSU if you needed it.

The Nvidia 8800GT cards are faster in some games but not enough to warrant the extra money in my eyes.

well I took advice from CB and went to overclockers.com and bought for £56 this beauty https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprod ... =GX-058-OK
It runs FS like a dream plus anything else I have effortlessly. Best graphics card I have had!!
Dont be put off by the low price ...you can spend a lot more and not notice it in FS!
Call of Duty 2 and other games are eaten with ease on this card... its the puppies privates as far as I am concerned

Thanks for the reply guys......

One thing though.....I was told that the better memory bandwidth the better the card......

Now Nvidia show there mem bandwidth but ATI don't....?

Anyone know where i can get that information...?

Tony

Quick edit......With my budget i can get 2 off these and still have enough left over for a new PSU......

Radeon 3850 bandwidth = 53 GB/sec
Radeon 3870 bandwidth = 72 GB/sec

The Nvidia 8800GT cards have a bandwidth of 57 GB/sec but still beat the Radeon 3870 in some benchmarks.

Nvidia currently have the fastest cards whereas ATI have gone down the route of affordable cards. The ATI cards also use slightly less power meaning you may not have to upgrade your PSU.

Well you could buy the Nvidia 8600GT and send the spare cash to me

I have a similar spec PC to you and put an 8600GT in it, mainly because I am tight and cannot justify to myself more than £100 for a graphics card.

I can't give you any frame rates because I am still trying to find the time to indulge in FS2004 -probably no use anyway since you aren't you an FSX man?

And as Tony M has pointed out, would you see any difference? Anyone with experience of the higher end cards who can pass on their experience?
