Well half a result. The scenery error has stopped thanks to the creation of the blank scenery folder. However I am still getting the FLIGHT SIMULATOR ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE message. The details of the problem are the same as my earlier posting near the top of Page 1. Groan!! :'(

Looking at that error message its looking for the simprop.dll.......see if thats in your modules folder and if it is.....cut and save it some where else and restart and see what happens.....?

There is no modules folder in FSX.....

simprop.dll resides directly under the main FSX folder, but I don't think this is the problem.....

doesn't the Sim start up now?

Actually my best guess is that you actually HAD some bgl's in the scenery folder, which belonged to some of the sceneries you have installed, and thus when the Sim now tries to load those, and it can't find the belonging afcads, or whatever they may be ... the simprop.dll fails with this error....

Unfortunately FS' failure logging facilities aren't the best in the world and therefore hard to decipher.... :-( A little more descriptive errorhandling would come in nice here ;-)

A sad but tiresome solution might be to manually remove all the add on entries in your scenery.cfg file, and thus lure FS into thinking everything is OK, and then loads. (back the cfg file up first)

Or let all scenery entries have LOAD=FALSE (except for the default ones of course)

If everything works alright, try to activate one scenery at a time.....

If this doesn't help, you might consider a reinstall as more trouble shooting might take longer than an total reinstall....

Tried that Simprop.dll this morning. No joy. Just tried system restore. And still the same problem. No error message relating to scenery problem. That appears to be sorted. Just this FSX need to close issue now. Wonder if they are related?

Sorry Tony, but no, that isn't the issue, nowhere does it say that any file is missing.....

I've edited my post just above yours, to include some extra trials....

One last thing though....(but it is a long shot) the data the sim has actually collected is very large and very difficult to read through, and on top of that in binary format..... but it COULD reveal some problems....but I think not......

Thanks for all your help and time on the matter gents. I don't think I will never get to the bottom of it. The CTD appears to be unrelated to the scenery issue. Time for a fresh install. :cpu:

Not necessarily... Vegas may come out with a better performing sim at the end...

Be sure to install all the basics first:

RTM, SP1, SP2 - followed by a backup of the "virgin-sim".... and then you various add-ons. testing them one at a time.
