Connies yes, Turbo-Connies, no. From what I gather there were only four R7V-2's, and two of those ended up with the Air Force before even being delivered to the Navy.

BUNO's 131630, 131631, 131660 & 131661. With 660 & 661 ending up in the Air-Force and numbered: 53-8157 & 53-8158,

RAF_Quantum wrote:Hi Joe,

Sorry for late reply. The gauge is in the cab file inside the panel folder. I unzipped it to have a looksee and noticed that there are two specific gauges torque 1/2 and torque 3/4 with corresponding xml code for each. The gauge 3/4 refers to needles 1 & 2 instead of needles 3 & 4. Needles 3 & 4 are in the cab file so I did a quick edit to point the xml code to needles 3 & 4, rezipped (as cab file) and bobs your uncle.

Thanks John
I appreciate the info

Best wishes for the New Year :)

I've been doing some research on the 1700 Flight Test Squadron (Turboprop), the unit which flew the YC-121Fs. The 1700 FTS(T) was charged with proving turboprop technology and working with the manufacturers of the engines to make them reliable enough for service in forthcoming new transport designs like the C-133 and C-130. The last two R7Y-1 being converted were delivered directly to the US Air Force on completion of the conversion and were re-designated the YC-121F. These 2 aircraft joined the 2 T34-powered YC-97Js and the 2 T56-powered YC-131Cs at the 1700FTS. The 1700FTS personnel flew normal daily missions just like every other transport squadron and were based at Kelly AFB, Texas, outside San Antonio, but flew many missions from Andrews AFB and Travis AFB, including flights to Hawaii and the UK by the YC-97s and YC-121s. The YC-131s flew flights within North America. In 1957, all of the requirements had been met and the turboprops were flying service flights on other airframes, so the 6 aircraft were retired or re-assigned and the unit disbanded in 1957.

The photo is the Navy version without tip tanks and shows the old streamlined style rotating beacon on the underside of the
fueslage aft of the trailing edge

Ill send you the picture after christmas as I will have to scan it in
Leif,

I´m still interested in this photo. Not only because of the beacon but also to have a look at the underside of the inboard engine nacelle.

Cheers
Carl
