Re: Anti-Aliasing
If you consider my previous post, you will see that you must make some preps before both modes are the same I.E. same resolution and same AA and AF etc. To get them the same you have to remember that Windowed Mode can't use some of the important settings that Full Screen Mode uses. You can't compare Apples with Oranges and if you get them the same then FSX doesn't prefer "Windowed Mode" :flying:Bridon Bear wrote:(Though strange that DaveB 's installation of FSX prefers 'Windowed Mode')

Re: Anti-Aliasing
This thread has been useful since I am just reinstalling FS2004. I have always run in windowed mode, mainly because I used two monitors and that was the simplest way (and without knowing better!) to have FS2004 on one screen and FSNav on the other. But reading that DaveB runs full screen and knowing that he has two monitors as well made me investigate further.
For Nvidia user it seems that to run FS2004 full screen on one monitor you have to run in "Dualview" mode. In the alternative "Span" mode, one monitor just goes to sleep. I usually run in"Span" mode so that the full width of the taskbar is available, but it is easy to switch between modes.
Am I missing anything here?

Re: Anti-Aliasing
No...you're not missing anything but I run two monitors with Full Screen Mode and it is fine with FSNav on the second one...Mine are set up as "Configured independently from each other (Dualview)"
With Mitsubishi DPro 2070SB + Dell D1025HE
The Mitsubishi is the primary.
Your mouse will cross from one to the other and in FS9 you undock the FSNav display and drag it to the secondary monitor. From then on, just clicking the little acorn icon at the top of the FSNav screen will pop it over to the second monitor...It will always come up on the primary on the first press of F9.
AH!...I've just realised that you could be running FSX...If you are then forget it! The first thing the Aces did was scupper that and assert that they were not going to change it back. So in FSX you just get a dead second monitor.

Re: Anti-Aliasing
Hi Ian,
I can't remember how mine is set at present but I'm almost certain it's not span. I can't look as I'm currently 'live' half way across the channel enroute to Hamburg but I'll check when the flight has finished (this is on a different pc via KVM and I'm watching my progress via FSNav on the TFT (monitor 2). I always run FS9 fullscreen and FSNav sits on the tft. Odd that FSX doesn't allow such tomfoolery.. only if you run in windowed mode
EDIT.. just seen Peters post. Mine is setup exactly the same ;-)

Re: Anti-Aliasing
Peter and Dave,
Thanks for confirming my recent findings. I am running FS2004 not FSX since I have too many addons that I need to get my money's worth from!
Yes Dualview is what I now need to switch to for FS2004. As I said I usually run in "Span" since I often have multiple Word documents open, Excel spreadsheets, and Acrobat files and the taskbar would be too small on just one monitor to see what was what.
A "work" and "play" setup for the monitors is now clear.

Re: Anti-Aliasing
Well done Ian...Glad you got it sorted...Just another snippet...A normal Screensaver like Marine Aquarium (which I call from an Icon) will show on your primary monitor. A slide show screensaver (like the one I set up with those wonderful space walk shots, recently on this forum and which I have set to work on time) will alternate its screenshots from monitor to monitor. An finally, if you trigger a screensaver from an icon then it will take precedence over a screensaver that is activated by time. This allows you two completely different screensavers without going into settings etc...I just click my Aquarium icon if I'm going off for a break and if I haven't done that and I do nothing for long enough then the space station shots cut in. Either of them are so captivating that I often find myself just watching for a while before resuming my tasks xwink

Re: Anti-Aliasing
I always run FS in full screen and stupidly forgot to ask you were doing the same..Doh! Re the new card... well its due today along with 2gb Ram so I am hoping for it to work well, maybe not give more FPS but give everything more horsepower so I get less disc swapping more free ram and less occasional "pauses"..But then again I did ask for world peace when I sat on Santas Knee

AMD Phenom II X4 BE 965 @ 3.80GHz
nVidia GTX 560 TI 448 Cores
Re: Anti-Aliasing
you will get more fps and you'll see textures drawn from further away
.
 ...well you'll have better chances on that
then the world peace wish........ I'm afraid
