You should realise that Flight Simulator is WRITTEN for Full Screen Mode and many of the settings in FS9 and FSX will not do anything in Windowed Mode...You don't believe me!...Well prove it to yourself. Goto the Options > Settings > Display page and set the Screen Resolution to something much higher than your Windows Desktop resolution...Say 1600x1200 (too high for most peoples monitors in Windows because the icons are too small)...While you are there put a Tick in the AA box)....Let us assume your Windows Desktop resolution is set at 1024x728 (a commonly used figure)...Now exit from FS9 and set your Nvidia or whatever Forceware to provide the AA to "Application Controlled".

Restart FS9 and look at the difference between Full Screen Mode with a res of 1600x1200 with Anti-Aliasing and the Windowed Mode at a res of 1024x728 without Anti-Aliasing...Now do you believe me? Flight Simulator is written for Full Screen Mode and many of the settings will only work in Full Screen Mode...You still see many screenshots taken in Windowed Mode because many people just don't know this :flying:

I shall now risk sounding stupid........windowed mode? full screen mode? How do I tell the difference?! It's probably blatantly obvious! (Runs for cover....)

Many thanks for your superior knowledge Peter.....we live and learn.. :prayer: (Though strange that DaveB 's installation of FSX prefers 'Windowed Mode')

your help for my installation problem makes sense to me now.....so glad there are helpful people like your good self on these Forums... :welldone:

'Full screen mode' will be without any headings at the top of your screen whilst in Flightsim.......'Windows mode' has all the headings displayed....to see whichever you are not in just toggle Alt & Enter at the same time to see......then repeat to get back.....

I don't know which is the default mode but if you switch to full screen mode, the next time you start FS it should remeber the setting and it should start in full screen mode. The same applies if you do the opposite - it will start in the last mode used. I always use full screen mode - I have had problems with windowed mode in the past and I think full screen looks a lot better anyway.

can't remember.......... think it's full
anyways, you can change that in the settings after youv'e started the game.
also I usually start in window mode about 1/4 size of my moniter
then go to full screen once If chosen the particulars of my flight.

then change back to window so when I restart FS9 the next time I start up in windows

Joe
personal choice thats all
