Tks Steve. This'll decide if FSX comes off or not ;-)

EDIT
It almost pains me to say it but SP2 actually works :o For those users who've experienced probs with the likes of GenX (on low end systems like my XP3200).. download the patch and enjoy fluid flight. For a test, I setup in a beta aircraft (the one Ben keeps wetting himself over) at Southampton and initially, FSX ground to a hideous 9fps and below but.. and here's the important thing.. once it sorted it's life out (this well before I'd left the runway) it settled down to around 29fps (locked at 30) :o :o :o No stutters.. no slideshows!!

Am I convinced enough to go over..

of course not  SP2 does bring me closer though. I may even try some real looking water tomorrow :cpu:

My advice.. go get it. I know there are many of you who've hung on and not moved over for a variety of reasons. SP2 may just alter the balance ;-)

I've had a mixed experience with Acceleration (AKA SP2 with a couple of new planes).

Even with my new Q6600, it can be stuttery and blurry at times. More investigation is needed, but I just don't have time to sort it out. The annoying thing is that it can be really quite brilliant sometimes.

The one thing which CONSTANTLY gets on my nerves with Acceleration is the VSync. There is a strange tearing effect most of the time, which I cannot remove. It's mainly noted online with nVidia cards, but since mine is ATI I believe that's just down to market share. Hopefully the same thing isn't present in SP2, although I fear it will be...

Oh, and Acceleration wants to activate itself every time I start FSX. Didn't last week, but does this week... It's when things like this start to happen that I wish I hadn't actually paid for it.

I'll be eager to try SP2 out (perhaps even fork out on Acceleration, over the weekend), but I've just got to wait for a couple of hard drives to be delivered so I can completely start over. A nice new 3.6GHz processor should be on the cards too, so hopefully I can get FSX running to a high standard!

I just hope I can get on the right end of the mixed results from Acceleration/SP2...

Hi James

I had that tearing problem but fixed it by setting my frame lock to a clean division of my screen refresh rate.

My TFT is running 1920x1200 @ 60hz so i locked it at 30 fps and it's fine now.

hope this is of use.

Thx for the heads up Steve. Downloaded this morning and already have noticed some significant improvements. Although my first experiment was a test flight around NYC and boy did my system hate that flight!

Hi Ben.. yes, the thing of which we must not speak

Et-al..
I don't have Acceleration.. just the freebie SP2 (oh.. and SP1) so can't comment on what else happens there. I see the odd Vsync thing from time to time but have done from the word go (nvidia 6800GT thru Hansol 19" CRT). It seems less pronounced with SP2 though not completely gone ;-) Of course, I'm also WinXP SP2 and DX9c, single-core.. you get the picture so any improvement is welcome. All I need now is FSNav in FSX flavour and I might be tempted but until that happens.. I'll remain on the 'Dark Side'

:o :o Dave, your system is almost the same as mine; XP 3200 and an Nvidia 6600 with 256 Mb here. I never thought FSX was even an option in my system, but with what you say about SP2, I'm starting to wonder. ( And there is still time to get a letter to Santa if I rush. )

How much RAM do you have ?
