Alphasim F-86F

Post by Quixoticish »

Not British but definitely a classic, has anyone picked this up yet? I'm curious to know how it stacks up to the rather excellent freeware F-86 that is already floating around (Kirk Ollsen's I believe?)

It looks to be rather good for a shade over a tenner at £13.75. I believe you only get one model/texture combo but I'm sure the army of repainters will sort that one out, and it's advertised as having droppable drop tanks and comes with two different flight models for both clean and loaded flight. A few recycled panels in the 2D cockpit which is a shame, but not a major hassle.

So cough up if you bought it, my credit card is burning a hole in my pocket. :dancer:

Well, it does look nice but it is another Alphasim model that won't be occupying my hard drive, unfortunately. :-( The single model chosen is, understandably, a Korean War F-86 with the 6-3 wing certainly restricts the repaint possibilities; the Kirk Olsson F-86 covered several wing options, so gives a lot more flexibility. I really do want to support Alphasim but, as I've said before, I can only justify payware if it is a significant improvement on any freeware offerings that are available.

TBH I think I'll stick with Kirk's for the moment, at least until the Javis meisterwerk arrives!

I'd snap this one up in a heartbeat but unfortunately the wallet is rather empty. :-( It sure looks nice through, doesn't it? :)

There are hints that Jan may be nearing the finish on his masterpiece, however I think he is under a lot of pressure to complete the equally stunning donationware Avenger for MAAM. I think I will wait for Jan on this one.

Don't think I'll be bothering with the Sabre, but thanks for the reminder of the MAAM Avenger, Trev. Thats definitely on the shopping list.
