I don't suppose you were trying to access the folder from a non-admin account? I know it's a bit obvious but you might have been sidetracked by something
And the folder properties in Vista seem to give more options for controlled access than XP does. I found some difficulties getting into some folders until I explored the properties a bit further and the security popups went away.
Might it have something to do with UAC? I don't have Vista, but from what I've read, User Access Control can give those sort of problems. It is apparently possible to turn it off, so you could try that.
Perhaps some of our Vista-ites (not to be confused with Marmites ) could help out?
I had to switch UAC off in order for a lot of things to work properly, even things as simple as re-saving a file I had altered. To switch UAC off open the start menu, click Help and Support and type in UAC you will be able to select to turn it off.
I also had problems with Norton Anti-Virus which came pre-installed on my new Vista machine, on recommendation I got rid of it and installed a free security programme called AVG which does absolutely everything that Norton did but without cocking up my flight simulator.
Oh yeah and as Ian says above, sometimes on newly downloaded files you may find that the file properties are read only, therefore you have to change that property to be able to alter the file.
I'm struggling with Vista's too but these are a few things I have found out.
Thanks guys......I have managed to turn off the UAC and things have settled down a lot.....But now i am unprotected and keep getting the security warning flashing up on the screen non stop.....?
My FSX flying FS9 aircraft now all work OK and found out that when dropping them into my Sim Objects folder they were getting sent to an incompatibilty folder by Vista...
It seems that Vista is very VERY over protective :@
Gotta find a way to have security features enabled without it refusing to do things I WANT TO DO.......
Vista is very intelligent but has a very steep learning curve after the comfort of XP....!

The last surviving and complete Vickers Vanguard....."Superb"
Never had that with Vista Tony, and I have UAC switched on. Are you just copying them to simobjects from explorer or are you using something like winzip?
Again, Vista doesn't do anything fancy with the sim other than run it... however the "\Program Files" directory is considered a system folder.
