FSX is stuck!!!

Post by Trev Clark »

As some of you may I installed a basic FSX over a patched de luxe version thanks to mix up with discs in the Acceleration pack.

As I now know, the idiot in the shop had given me FSX standard (the whole basic programme) instead of the add on. The long and short of it is, I have (had 2 FSX's) and niether will run, repair, re-install or even un-install. :dunno:

Can I just delete the all FSX folders and the folder in settings etc. where the .cfg lives, or is there more to take off manually. The problem lies within the security side (both are bona fide copies), the original de luxe was registered by phone and the fact that first copy was patched with SP1. Thats what rang an alarm bell when it was installing, however not loud enough to stop it! I am happy to do a complete re-install and patch, but I cant :'(

Trev, if uninstalling cannot be done through FSX as it is with FS9 try the add/remove in control panel.

You could also try a system restore to the point where FSX was not installed then search and make sure that FSX is not anywhere on your system, if it is then manually delete it bit by bit.

Failing that then I think you should be able to uninstall manually bit by bit finally finishing with the main folder. Then go to search files/folders for the cfg and delete that and anything that comes up with FSX for that matter.

Maybe some-one could give an alternative.

Open a Command prompt and type FORMAT C: followed by a hit on the Enter key ---- that does the trick ..... effectively ! :tab:

You should only fall back to manually uninstall after all other things have failed: add/remove, restore point etc. etc.. Generally speaking a manual uninstall usually doesn't take care of registered components, registry settings etc. etc. so the might be a LOT of remains after simply deleting folders.....

Do a solid Googling even before manually deleting. MS. might also have something on "Manually Uninstalling" ... Good Luck.

Apart from the main FSX directory, it also has folders in "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX" and / or "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX".
There will also be plenty of entries in the registry.

Generally speaking any good registry cleaning software should be able to clean up the registry entries that are left behind on manually deleted programs.

Yes I agree...I had to uninstall FSX manually during beta testing and just deleted all the folders and known items and then ran Registry Mechanic...It found and removed hundreds of bits and was very successful. The next beta installation was faultless.

BTW...Don't forget the ones here:-

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

You need to "Show hidden files and folders" to see that place

If he has, he will end up with a fresh new machine and that will not be a bad point to start ;-)
