Spybot V System Restore.

Post by Nigel H-J »

Hi all, had Spybot for a bit but found that it kept interfering with some changes (don't ask me why, but it just did).

Anyway, I uninstalled it and when I went to System Restore on Windows XP, although the files were restored when it came to the restoring settings part, it just froze up...the progress bar did not show signs of movement so after half an hour I had to press the re-start button. Never got to where I wanted on the restore date (Settings). My question is has any-one else experienced this as it now seems that I cannot go back on a restore date. Equally, should I put in a restore setting for say today, come next week and I select it, will it work?

Just beginning to think that Spybot has done some changes that cannot be undone. :doho:

Any help gratefully appreciated.

nigel.

ohh I wonder if that might have been the cause of the scenery file errors in flight sim after inslatting CA security suite
I kept getting these queer errors that Dat files and other files couldn't be located and I needed to shut down
FS and restart the simulator

A system restore also fixed my problem
One word I have for the experience

Nigel,

This is grasping at straws but here goes. Where you using the Tea Timer - the resident program that monitors registry changes? if so the log files may still be on you computer. They are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs. I don't know if they will still be there after the uninstall but if they are you might want to look at those just to see if you can identify anything related to your settings problem.

You might also check the forums on the Spybot website, or even pose you question there if no one comes along here with a better answer than mine.

Nigelb thought you would like to know I have managed to sort it out and system restore now does what it says it does......restores.

It appeared to be what you suggested.....the teatimer......or else it was just a coincidence!!

Nigel

Great - good to hear you all sorted. Tea Timer can be a pain sometimes when installing software that makes registry changes, but it is good to know when something wants to makes changes to the registry.
