Problem with Ghost and jumping

Post by johnsmithe15 »

I have had a look through the forum but couldn't find anything.

The problem is that several flights of mine now have been spoiled because the aircraft jumps on changing views and FlyNet interprets this as t/o or landing and all the inherent issues that go along with it ie. not having landing lights on. It just happened again on the ramp at Stansted, taxi-ing IN. The lights have been switched off after leaving the active. It has hammered my pilot rating :-(

One flight was so ruined, and unfortunately submitted, that it appears I have taken off at Birmingham and landed there, not only giving me the light penalty but also WRONG airport and susbsequent loss of finances when I hadn't even taken off.

Now I guess the easy solution is, dont change views whilst taxi-ing!! ;-)

It is a new PC with a clean install of FS9, just had to get rid of Norton as it was causing problems with online flying. I have little or no add-on scenery and it is not for the airports I have been flying in the UK anyway.

Is this a known problem? Is there anything I can do about it.

Johnny

PS. I hope this is the right forum for this, only joined up last week.

Hi Johnny,

This isn't a flynet problem as such (although flynet may need to be tweeked by the developers to be a little less sensitive) Generally speaking when you change view from cockpit to say spot view, the computer has to redraw the images... and importantly the mesh. eg, you flick to outside view and your at AGL... but the takyway is actually at 5 ft, your aircraft bumbs up 5 ft when the PC draws the correct taxiway.

Its a pain in the arse, but unless you've a high end system, this has always been the case. Lets hope Konny can do something to make the client less sensitive. :cpu:

Thanks for that, I will have to avoid switching views. Taxi-ing was easier when I had dual screens for perspective which I had before but this graphics card doesnt take another monitor and there isnt a free PCI slot.

Hi Johnny :)

I've wondered what sort of problem you'd been having as there seemed to be no explanation. I dunno if this will help but try leaving your landing lights on. I appreciate it's not realistic and not necessary (under normal circumstances) but you won't get penalised if you have them on right from the start. I keep mine on when taxiing and despite falling down a few scenery holes.. have never been hit for a 'false' takeoff ;-) Of course.. when I say leave them on, this applies to being on the ground only :)

Thanks Dave,

the light issue I understand and will cope with it.

The other 'scenery hole' that caused a problem was as I was turning onto the active for takeoff, switched views to check position, the a/c bumped and I got the bong, when I checked the FlyNet client I had a penalty for arrival at wrong airport.

As I have other type rating now will see if it happens again, it may well be my PC.

Never mind.

Johnny :)

It's a pain Johnny and I feel for you. I think the guys at FlyNET have adjusted the sensitivity of the client already as this has been brought up as an issue before but that won't help you I'm afraid. If it can be 'worked around'.. all well and good. If not, I'll ask John to give Konny an ear pounding to see if we can't get something done ;-)

Hi Dave,

I caught Konny on MSN this afternoon and asked if this could go on the 'to do' list to give a bit of leeway for 'bounces'. It's now on the list but he doesn't know when it will get done as it's DaKurt who looks after the client now, Konny looking after web site.
