Scenery Shortcut for FSX

Post by DaveB »

Hi Chaps,

While toodling around the internet this evening, I stumbled on a FREE program at http://www.abacuspub.com which lets you build your own scenery in FSX (or add to existing scenery as it can't take away whats already there). I've downloaded it but not had an opportunity to try it yet (waiting for the link from Abacus) but it looks exactly the same as EZ-Scenery. Why they should be giving it away is beyond me but there you go. I think the only downer is that you have to have the 'Deluxe' edition of FSX (probably because it has a better object library). Can't wait to have Giraffes wandering down the Thames in Berkshire (as real as it get's don't ya know)

Actually Dave, all you do is add the objects using the object placer supplied with the FSX SDK. This prog then converts the format from mission scenery to normal scenery.

Well.. there you go. I've not fiddled in FSX and had no idea the object placer was supplied with the SDK but it was free so I got it  If it's of any use, then all well and good. If it's not, then nowt lost ;-) Regardless, it seems to have been popular as Abacus have had to increase their bandwidth :cpu:

I think the objplacer was part of the FS9 SDK as well ...

Hiya Dan :)

I honestly don't know Dan. Since FS98.. no, FS2000 really.. scenery has been something I've bought or downloaded and not anything I've made myself so that side of things is generally a mystery to me (as you've no doubt realised) I bought EZ-Scenery purely as a tool to add a little something to PeteP's Portsmouth and that's all I've used it for. The advert on Abacus for Scenery Shortcut shows exactly the same picture minus wording plus the all important word.. FREE! :) As I don't know about object placer or how it works other than that it comes with the FSX SDK (and this I only learned today off DG's post), it does seem that I'm wasting everyones time and for that, I apologise.

I'll keep all new 'Free' HU's to myself in future :'(

OK then.. as it's you, I won't ;-)

Point here is.. there are a lot of folk out there who either don't tamper with the darkest bits of the sim or who only do it via simple, GUI based addon programs and they, like me, will have absolutely NO interest in what the SDK has to say. We (the Royal we) are the point and click merchants :cpu: If a pre-requisite of using flightsim was to read and understand the SDK (or even just read it).. it wouldn't happen.. the sim that is. The other alternative is that we'd all be experts and forums like this would cease to exist :) Just think how many great models we'd have then!
