Hi All,
Another weird one with FS9 (and actually with FS8).
My aircraft seem to be suffering from some degree of gliding capability and extreme light weight - particularly with winds above 5 kts. EG, when the Aircraft flares, I go sailing along the runway at about 30 feet AGL until either a: it eventually touches down about 75% into the runway, or b: I stick the throttles forward and go around. I've tried, in both 8 and 9, using autopilot with descent rates up to 500fpm, and (making sure throttle control is idle when I switch off at threshold) even then, I get the same result (on various airfields). Anyone any suggestions?
Surely not a conflict between the two versions?
As an aside, wanting to try something out, I used a super VC10 in both 8 and 9, fully loaded, and on liftoff, I shut the fuel valves on engines 1-3, and put flaps up. I was able to climb at 170 kts to 5000ft while doing a 5 degree turn to reverse course, and land safely with no flaps/slats - apart from being slightly fast, a smooth landing. The point being: is the sim overpowering my aircraft?
Another test was an standard VC10 at the NASA SSLF runway, when I rotated early, became airborne and immediately touched down and activated thrust reverse. I pulled into a climb with the engines on reverse, gaining 700 feet before the Aircraft was about to stall. I killed reverse, and the aircraft began to sink at 65 kts, full flaps, 5 nose up. Nose forward, full throttle and it recovered easily within 300 feet. (Incidentally I got no stall warning).
Are my installations kaput???
What on earth am I doing??

I doubt if FS can really be that close to real world
You seem to be putting it into odd situations
I think if you fly is as it should be flown then things will be more as they should be.
That's how it's set up ;-)

Hi Jim,
I dunno what the hell is going on there matey. DM and I have watched Tonks (mit crew) in the C1K sim simulate engine failure on takeoff and I think the civvie engineer was good enough to leave him with one engine for landing :o I've tried this in the C1K and it certainly doesn't do what you describe on my installation.. far from it
That aside, I think Garry has probably hit the nail on the head. For £40 and a free aircraft model, you're not gonna get the same response as if you're sitting in the £2000perhr VC10 sim as the vast majority of what a real aircraft will do physically can't be modelled. Perhaps you'd be better off with CombatFS with your settings put to invulnerable, unlimited fuel and unlimited ammunition ;-)

Re: What on earth am I doing??

Hi Guys,
I must have a glitch somewhere. I'm just a little loath to take FS2002 out, as there is so much stuff in it......

But I do think that something has clashed with '04.
Generally (despite the look from my postings) I do try to fly by the numbers, and (usually) all is OK. Something just appears to have lightened my aircraft by several hundred or thousand kilos in the last night or two!!
I may bite the bullet and take out FS2002, and reinstall '04.

Jim

Yes Jim
Take out 2002 :yipeee:
2004 will give you all that and more..the only thing FS.9 doesn't have are the AI Pterodactyls

If it was decent in FS.8 there will be an FS.9 version and some of it will run anyways

Don't we all know what that feeling is like Jim.. that's why most of us are staying put with FS9 (notwithstanding the fact that most of us don't like FSX or don't have systems capable of running it!)I'm just a little loath to take FS2002 out, as there is so much stuff in it......

Re: What on earth am I doing??

I wonder how long it will be before someone does them??
I'm shuddering at the scale of the defrag I'm going to need when 02 is uninstalled, it has to be the most monumental install ever (not to mention a lot half-cocked

I'm now about to land myself another problem: trying to decide *what* to download for 04

(apart from what I already have installed of course ;-) )
Jim
