Percival P-56 Provost

Post by John R »

hello everyone.

For my winter R/C project I'm temped by a 'piston provost' I've got the plans for a nice size example (approx 68" span).
I'm stuck for detailed pictures of a few areas, cockpit, cowling etc. The nearest one to me is Cosford, which I plan to visit, but has anyone got any pics they could share with me? CHEERS

Many Thanks.

John,

there's one at the Museum of Flight up here. I went with EricT on Monday, but I'm happy to go back if there is anything you need. :)

Not sure if they'll be much use :dunno: , but here’s a couple of photo’s I have of Newarks Air Museums example:

Tucked away in the hanger it's a bit difficult to get any other angles.

Best of luck with your project. :)

Thanks for the replies! All are very appreciated. The Newark one looks nicely tucked away in there Alex..

I'll plan a trip down to Cosford, so I'm going to try and get some pics there. I'll have spare seats in the car, so if anybody local to the Widnes/south Liverpool area fancies alook around there PM me.
I'll send curator a letter to see if some internal pictures can be obtained.(anybody done this?)

I'm preparing my MR2 for the classic car show at the NEC in November then I'll be starting the Provost, so I'll post some pictures of the build as I go. I'm hoping to power it with one of these

All the Best!

I have some at home taken when I've had the odd flight or two in one. Will try and dig them out for you.

There was a very good article in the latest AOPA magazine on the Provost, including cockpit shots. Am going flying this evening so will see if any are left in the clubhouse. And writing this, I remember in an 1950s book that I have at home, a whole chapter is dedicated to the Provost re construction etc. Will find and photocopy as dont have access to a scanner.

One of the nicest aeroplanes I have had the chance to fly........

Best wishes,

Martin

Hi Everyone,

Just a little update, I've been asking simular questions on the R/C modelling forums and one chap has been a great help.
Here is a 1969 photo of the designer and the said model..
A little bit more inspiration!
