What a price! That gives you 30 quid towards the 250 quid new video card you will need to run it

Is that the crappy cheapo version though?
Or is it the Delux one that us serious people have to buy?

If it is the proper one & I can get Argos discount off the old father-in-law...
All I'd need is a new hard drive to load the bloody thing.

No need to disturb the father-in-law Mr Maltby sir, it is indeed the "crappy cheapo version". You'll just have to continue 'slumming' it in FS9 with the remaining select few! ;-)

You don't need a £250 video card (although it might help). You need about £2000 worth of Intel's best:

8 cores in action

I think I'll just wait for the 256 core...... ....actually it might be cheaper to buy and fly a real aeroplane.

'It's running and taxing all 8 cores now.. where does it go from here?'...

This goes some way to explaining why it runs cr@p on my single core!!

Thanks Dave for that in depth technical description.

TBH it is difficult to guage what he ateempting to tell us as they have been saying that anything can be done given the processor power ever since the earliest valve controlled computers the size of church organs.

Twenty five years ago in the days of the BBC B etc they were showing us things that could be achieved when computers become powerful enough..like pics or even one day colour pics.

Same as here, showing on a super machine of the day and the rest theory.

Well the home PC has long caught up to beyond the super computers of those days but the wish list as what to run on computers has moved ahead even futher.

So when we do have the 256 core as standard there will be stuff then that will not run properly unless you upgrade to 512 core.....or whatever.

All it shows what you could have..but haven't and tells you all about what you will be not be able to afford when they have invented it :-(

It does not help you now. ..but proves what we already knew. FS.X is a far superior sim given the ability to run it, which most of us don't.

So back to square one and upgrade when you can afford it and get the best you can with your system.

But you can never be up to date..well not for long.

That about sums it up mate. I remember watching Tomorrows World many years ago when they were predicting we'd all be on a 3-day week. Well.. that has happened since but due to power cuts and a variety of other reasons.. NOT because all the work has been done by computers  Considering how many pc's there are in existance.. none of us should ever need to get out of bed again!!

What he underlined in that interview you've already picked up on. However fast/capable cpu's become, the software developers will program to take full advantage of it. We're quite lucky in a way in that we only flightsim (or should I say mostly flightsim) so we have a couple of years inbetween new editions to get up to speed. Of course, we're at the bottom end of the foodchain again in two years time so it's up to us where we go. My flightsim pc is in excess of 3-years old and the old dog I'm typing on now is way in excess of that but I'm at a point where I don't care to keep up any more and I certainly won't be upgrading my system just to run FSX on. Then looms the spectre of Vista and on it goes... :o
