I do hope all is well
It is bizarre after all his adventures that he should get into trouble on something so straight forward and local :-(

Unless we hear something in the next 24 hours, we must expect the worse I am afraid. Survival in that area is tough, and without a transponder working it seems that he may have crashed or possibly had another sort of medical emergency whilst in the air and was unable to switch it on. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

If he survived the landing, Steve Fossett has been out in the Nevada desert since last Monday. Unless he brought a significat amount of water with him survival would be unlikely.

Ive been following this from afar - the most remarkable thing is the number of undiscovered aircraft crash sites that have been
unearthed during the search - considering the he left with less that a quart of water in the aircraft - and that NO ELT transmissions have been heard - including the much heralded "wristwatch" Sat locator that both he and Branson wear, Without being a total downer on everyone after week as Joe said and as has been said by the SAR folks up there the chances of "rescuing" him are slim to none - it has now become a "recovery" mission. and before anyone starts in about "oh he could he holed up out there somewhere - I suggest to ask Tonks about the Northwestern area of Nevada as he has experience flying over it. It is not only inhospitable but has claimed over 500 aircraft over the last 50 years or so most of which have never found.
My heart goes out to his wife and family, and I truly hope the he walks out of the Nevada Desert, he did however chose his own exit , which is more than most of us will
