Book Recommendation

Post by Tomliner »

Hi All.I am reading 'Wings on My Sleeve' by Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown who was a Naval test pilot serving also at the RAE at Farnborough. The list of types flown is amazing (up to 8 different types in one day).It covers his remarkable career from 1937 to 1970 and for one man to have so many exciting, varied and at times dangerous experiences and survived speaks volumes about his professionalism.Well worth reading.ps I have no vested interest in recommending this book.Best Wishes EricT :)
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

My favourite aviation book (a novel) is 'Cone of Silence' by David Beaty. Technically out of print but believe you can trace copies. Based on a fictitious early British Jet Airliner called the 'Phoenix' suffering take off problems at high tewmperature/weight. (Believe the author had met in real life the Comet Pilot who suffered the crash on take-off at Rome with the Comet 1 (before the fatal accidents) whom was convinced he had followed procedures - and was later vindicated.) I read it once annually and, always discover another gem each time within its pages.
