Re: DVI socket differences
That's how I understood it Chris. The main issue would be if the card was DVI-D and the TFT was DVI-I but this isn't the case ;-)

Re: DVI socket differences

I must admit that I always thought the male/female thing was a bit more complex than just a matter of "holes and sticky-out bits" ....

Re: DVI socket differences
I see where we are all coming from now (as my wife says "looking down different ends of the binoculars).
You are assuming a captive cable to the monitor - I was assuming the cable that was separate from the monitor and hence had to be compatible at both ends.
And nice one Dan.

Re: DVI socket differences
David...My graphics card has the same, but I've fitted and screwed on a short adaptor onto each and that allows normal monitor cables to be plugged and screwed into the adaptors. The adaptors are cased in red transparent plastic...I already had one which came with my previous graphics card (one of each type of socket in the card and they supplied one adaptor)...This latest card which has both monitor sockets as DVI, also came with one adaptor. So now both adaptors are in use.MALTBY D wrote:My graphics card has a DVI-I dual link socket.
I'm looking at getting a new LCD monitor, but noticed it says it's DVI-D dual link instead.
Please can anyone confirm that it will work ok?
I did find this, but it's a bit beyond me. ;-)

Re: DVI socket differences
Thanks goodness for standards. ;-)
I agree with pretty much everything written here & also agree that I should be ok.
The monitor I have my eye on has a DVI-D connection and comes with a DVI cable (which must be DVI-D).
The graphics card is female DVI-I, so it will fit.
I'm sure I did read somewhere that the long flat pin is slightly wider on DVI-I than DVI-D (or was it t'other way round). But the difference is the right way round to fit a male DVI-D into a female DVI-I.
This is the monitor BTW, if anyone wants to put me off or recommend another.

Permanently out of stock at Dabs, which is a good sign I think.
Thanks

Re: DVI socket differences
Hi DM
Not a bad looking piece of kit and being Philips, it should be a good'un. Class I too so no dead pixels (I have 2 on mine but it's got no worse and it isn't Class 1 ;-) Nice fast response time so no delays there
Not so sure I'd go for one with built-in speakers as the sound never seems to be good enough out of em (not for my poor hearing anyway) :o Not widescreen either which is a bonus.. no stretching ;-)
Right.. let's wait for CB to come and rip it up for *rse paper

I guess your on the right track here David :-)
I'm on an old Dell 21" CRT, but my 7600GT has a DVI output, so I went out bought meself an analog/digital adapter and sat it at the "monitor" end of the cable. So there...
totally OFFTOPIC , but anyway, thats what I did.

Re: DVI socket differences
Must have been a cheap one Dan as most cards (all the ones I've had anyway) that have DVI output come with an adapter
Glad it did as my TFT has an analog output and my 19" CRT sits in the other hole

Hi DM,
I am very pleased my my Samsung which is another £50 over the cost of the phillips but it is 22" as opposed to 19" - lots of desktop real estate

Come to think of it, it did, the adapter I bought was for my ATI-card that came with the box, and thus no adapter.
