Forum question

Post by RAF_Quantum »

I noticed this on the main page a few minutes ago :-

In total there are 4 users online :: 3 registered, 1 hidden and 0 guests (This data is based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 220 on Wed Jun 27, 2007 10:59 pm

Registered users: Google [Bot], MSN [Bot], Yahoo [Bot]
Legend: Guru's, The Ministry

Is that usual to have those bots as registered users?

How else can they crawl the forum posts? For instance if Google tries to access my CMS it's blocked out like a normal user. I'm sure it's built into the PHPBB system, seems logical enough.

I think that sums up our registered users quite well
I have also been thinking, what was so special on June 27 2007
On a serious note, I am sure Ben will get back on the first question, he is THE I.T. expert ;-)

I can't even remember what I was doing on that date......... :worried:
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Hi Guys,

The bots were always there, in phpBB2.x, you just didn't know it. They'd appear in the admin panel. In phpBB3 they appear on the main forum pages, which is much handier. They are not registered users, but appear next to the Registered user list and do count in the totals showing as online. We don't usually block bots, as they help people find us on the web. :)
