RAF Benson Families Day

Post by Chris558 »

Just a quick Heads up to anyone who will be in the area (especially Dave B) It is next Thursday, 30th August.

I should stess it is NOT open to the pubic, but that doesn't stop you viewing from outside the Base, providing that, if you come by car, you park sensibly.

I don't know what will turn up in the flying Display, as Bensons web site only devotes a couple of sentences to it, without any listings, but the Reds do have a 'private military event' listed on that day, so they could well be there. The Falcons ARE due to be there, but that's all I know as yet....

And I thought Wednesdays was your day off Dave   . I think young Tom Pringle may be at Benson (if they have got around to finding a bed for him there), perhaps he might have some details?

I'm afraid not Dave, but it will probably be from about 1300-1330.

No doubt the Home team will be displaying. Probably the only place to catch the Merlin this year as, if I'm right, Team Merlin wasn't displaying officially this year...?

The Red Arrows will normally do any Families Day there is, unless it coincides with another (more profitable) event, the same is also for the Falcons who used to love the chance of jumping out of helicopters. So, as with the old Odiham days, I guess this will be the same. You may even get some comedy winching too if you are the base and we ALWAYS picked up a car the was 'parked' in the OC's parking space (supposedly) and managed to drop it in the middle of the airfield from 300ft! Oh what fun!!!

Cheers Chris ;-)

Trev..
Yes, Wednesdays are my day off but with Benson being only 8.5mins down the road.. I can loaf (and will do so) They didn't have one last year but the year before was worth seeing. I posted shots at the time though I've since pulled them off here. Display Hawk.. Red's.. Typhoon.. BBMF Spit.. E3D.. what else, can't remember but I still have the originals here somewhere ;-)
EDIT.. Harrier.. Grob.. Eagles.. Chinook :) ... and Jaguar :-(

Yep, the Arrows and the Falcons will be there.

I think there might be an aircraft with these stats;

# Thrust: 20,000lbs
# Max speed: 2Mach
# Length: 15.96m
# Max altitude: 65,000ft
# Span: 11.09m

Might be wrong though :dunno:

As for the Merlin display, I'm not sure but I do hope they do it as like mentioned before, we have had to stop flying it :-(

A Mig 29 brilliant  , will it be escorting the Bear that will be 'probing' the UK air defence system?
