Airport Facilitator X

Post by AndyG »

I've just been looking at the information on Airport Facilitator X, over at Flight1, seems to be a sort of turbocharged Afcad program - it works for both FS9 and FS X (not that I'm worried about that, obviously  ).

Has anybody else got any thoughts on this or even bought it already?

works exactly same as Afcad did with a lot of added extras like live scenery editing .

I wonder if Lee Swordy was involved, since from what I can tell it looks almost identical to AFCAD2 with added new features like real time editing, taxiway signs and so on. Taxiway signs was something Lee had indicated would be available in a future version of AFCAD2, which of course has never appeared...... until now it seems.

I tried the demo, and its pretty good. The in game view is great, and really helps.

However, I don't think I would part with money for it as there are good freeware programs that do the same thing, albeit without the snazzy in-game overlay.
Afacd2 for fs9, obviously, and SDE (http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=82) and FSPlanner (http://www.zbluesoftware.com/fsxplanner/) for FSX. Both these are still in development, but are highly usable. I believe they also support some things AFX does not.

I must confess I was a little dubious as was very happy with Lee's afcad, but AFX is simply brilliant! The ability to preview in FS what you are creating in real time is invaluable and saves huge amounts of time. A must have imho.

Best wishes

Don't waste your precious money on a product based more or less on the old AFCAD which again was developed for FS2002 .... and never quite finished by the way.

Two very useful AND at an excellent price (free) are well under their way over at fsdeveloper.com

FSXPlanner, which has already hit the public, and ADE which is very near the same.

Both are specialized for FSX, and is even more useful and foolproof than the old AFCAD.

The are many aspect that AFX haven't ironed out a which are leftovers from AFCAD.

Indeed AFX IS AFCAD, in a new shirt.

Dan,

Thanks for your comments. However, as I still haven't crossed to the Dark Side (I think it's only me and Tony Madge now  ) those programs are of no use to me! I probably will pick up AFX, but it may be a while as my pennies are reserved for Alphasim at the moment, with some real goodies due out any day.

I have been known to dabble with the odd Afcad file. And working on the basis that it is (for the moment) the only way I'm going to get even a vague version of something like Honington in my 'Retro' install, I will undoubtedly continue to do so.
